Anyone know of any good local galvanizers? Closer to Trowbridge the better. I need to get some bits of land rover done.

Otherwise anyone know of any local companies who would often get things galvanized? Trailer makers or something, might be willing to put it in their next batch.

Cheers!

Do you mean eletro galvanizing or spun galvanizing, the former other wise known as zink plating can be accomplished by any metal plating company, the latter spun galvanizing, then McArthurs based in Bristol, with collection and delivery in your area;

Electro is about 2/10ths of a thou, almost the thickness of nail varnish. Spun galvanizing is much thicker, with threaded parts having to be manufactured under sized in order to accommodate the thickness of the galvanizing. Electro is what you might see on general DIY hardware items, barely last a winter without corrossion, rust setting in.

No, I once worked in Bristol for a subsidiary of Guest Keen & Nettlefold (GKN), who manufactured nuts, bolts, screws etc. The stocks we held were are in a “self colour” condition, with customers requesting their preference for a particular protective coating to be applied.

I recall once receiving an order for 10,000 5/8 dia x 3” galavanized nuts and bolts, these we readily supplied eletro galvanized. A few months later they were rejected by the customer, since, and unbeknown to us, they were wanted for the crash barriers on the M5 south bound of Bristol.

The replacements had to be specially manufactured, with the “pitch” of the threads for both being manufactured undersized, in order to accommodate the thickness of the spun galvanizing.

Zinc plating is often referred to as electro galvanized, which in our outdoor environment is as much use as nail varnish, the term “spun” is rarely used, and if you both request and search for spun galvanizing, then you will obtain a protective coating that will not require your attention for some considerable time.
