Publc transport attempt and fail #2
Discussion
My mission was to travel 35 miles from my home in Bristol to the Jag garage on the A38 near Burnham-on-Sea.
The lift I had arranged cancelled due to being proper poorly so I though I'd check out public transport. I needed to arrive by 17:30. No worries, pack some lunch and pain relief (dodgy bones and stuff), make a trip of it and pop over to see the sea while I'm there. Now, let's check the buses and go!
The earliest bus leaves central Bristol at 15:00. This means catching a bus near me at 14:30. Travel into town, change, change again at Weston-super-Mare, change yet again at Burnham-on-Sea, arrive at destination around 18:00. No good.
How about a coach? This scenario was pretty much the same but leaving Bristol at 21:40 arriving at the garage for 23:30. Not really much use.
I know, I'll use a train! Okay here we go...oh joy the times are the same as for the 4 bus extravaganza.
End result, call a mate and he's popping me down there tomorrow morning when it will take all of about 40 minutes.
Public transport – great if you don't want to do anything other than go to the shops. It also explains why supermarkets are open 24 hrs...
And yes I know I dropped an "i" in the thread title

Note to OP:
It has come to the attention of PH admins that you have commited a serious violation of PH memebrship rules -
Rule 64)B)iii) clearly states:
"If a member shall be found to have commited the heinous crime of using the devil's work known as "Public Transport" (see definition of "Public Transport" at Annex E)2)i)) he/she shall have his/her membership cancelled forthwith and without right to appeal"
Please hand your gimp mask and Castrol R at the door on the way out..........

At the risk of being a "membership violator" I've just had a look on the National Rail Enquiries website.
There are trains from Bristol Temple Meads to Highbridge about every hour from the first one at 5.24am, with the average journey time being about 45 minutes.
OK, you've got to get to Temple Meads first and it's not a short walk from Highbridge station to where you want to go, but I'd be surprised if any bus can do Bristol to Highbridge via Weston in 45 minutes

I took the train from highbridge a while ago, after cycling to Burnham to see a friend. Was a lovely journey there, only took 3 hours. The train back has to be one of the most painfully slow trains I have been on, I never knew there were so many stations within Bristol. This seemed to make slower progress than the one I took in Russia that stopped at stations without names.
