Great country pub along A35?
Discussion
Hello South Westers, I'm after some of your local knowledge please
Next week I'll be travelling from Sussex to Cornwall, and we want to stop on route once we've passed Bournemouth.
Can anyone recommend a really nice pub that's easily accessible from the A35, anywhere along that stretch really (or down some nice driving roads)?
Hoping for one of those cosy country pubs that serves excellent food in a nice spot.
Any advice appreciated, thanks

We once went to the Fox at Corscombe (north of Bridport). It's a bit of a step from the A35, maybe 10 miles, but it is a proper little country pub.Next week I'll be travelling from Sussex to Cornwall, and we want to stop on route once we've passed Bournemouth.

I hope you get good weather because the views West along stretches of the A35 are fantastic.
I think the first place you'd come too past Bournemouth, basically right at the end of the A35 dual carriageway through Bournemouth and Poole, at a place called Lytchett Minster, is The Bakers Arms. Reviews now looking a bit patchy though. But if if you can divert onto the A31 which runs parallel (you pick up the A35 again at Bere Regis) then The World's End at a little hamlet called Almer should suit perfectly, and I think the food is pretty good too. I prefer the A31 to the A35 through there, the A35 is just a boring road through that part of Dorset whereas the A31 runs through some nice scenery.
Personally, unless you want to go through Bournemouth, I'd stick on the A31 anyway.

Will be taking the A31 from the new forest until it turns into the A35 at Bere Regis. I usually stop off quickly near Honiton, but fancy a decent lunch this time. So anywhere along there is great.Personally, unless you want to go through Bournemouth, I'd stick on the A31 anyway.
