My wife’s Golf diesel car is making a whooooshie noise and at the same time producing a lot of black smoke, does not happen all the time.

I thought it might be the MAF, so changed that, then thought might be the intercooler or split hoses to the same, but not that. I have taken the car to two smallish garages, both not finding anything, with the last suggesting I find a garage with a rolling wheel to see if the black smoke, whooooshie sound is reproduced.

Does anyone know of a garage in the Bristol area, either with a rolling wheel or one that might be an expert on fuel/air mixture diagnostics.

I thought myself it might be either a loose or split intercooler hose, but apparently not by two local garages, so will try a third.

get someone to rev it and you will hear where its coming out, the smoke is the ecu fueling the air that is read by the mass meter as it escapes hence the amazing overfueling

You could try Graham Batt:

VAG specialist, and good with diagnostics. It's been a long time since I used them, but they were fine for me and knew their stuff. HTH

Thanks for the info, will contact them in the morning.

Spent part of the afternoon checking pipes to and from the intercooler to the turbocharger, without finding any holes, splits or loose pipes, even cleaned out the EGR, air filter and re-fixed the MAF.

did you get someone to rev it as you looked? you should be able to find the leak by the whoosh noise

Does that diagnosis work for all VAG ignition problems
I know the LamboGrenchy is too old to be VAG but still worth a laugh.
