Ok now a bit more light hearted. JUST biggrin

My 78YO gran want to learn to use a PC. Why I have no idea. Her son (can't be arsed to help teach her)

So Any suggestions on places the elderly can go to learn the basic to use a PC. Bristol/South Glos area

Please don't ask me to help her, took almost 2 years and she can just about turn on a lap top and just about press the internet explore button. EI: can't use a freeview box. after guiding her 20+ plus she still does not get it
But she want's to learn banghead

Is the libary a start to ask if they run courses?

No courses at any of the local colleges? Could you not find her a nice toyboy, who could perhaps show her the ropes?

What does she want to do with it? An iPad or other tablet might be a better bet. Tablet PC, that is. Not cyanide wink

You are really up against it. My mum (80yo) stayed at Christmas and I tried to show her how to read a newspaper on-line - it was a bloody nightmare just getting her used to the concept of a mouse. Let me know how (or if!) you get on

My mother has written instructions for switching on and using her mobile phone to call me...

But what she doesn't know about horticulture isn't worth knowing wink

Old people, they have uses!

My gran knows how to use email she is 88...

i have it already open up on the screen for her, with written instructions. She knows to send an email to us she presses reply, then writes her message then send..

if anyone else happens on screen, internet router needs restarting etc, she cant work it..

i set up logmeon on her PC so i can correct st from whereever i am.

Tried to get her onto ipad, but its just easier sticking to what she knows.

If all the library route fails I'm happy to provide computer lessons. I've done so for elderly family members, friends, and friends of friends for a few years now. I'm not the 'geekiest' (my highest IT qualification is an 'A' grade at AS-level ICT) but I think my strength lies in my patience and communication. I'm based in Bristol.

PM me.

thanks for the offer Synchro but i feel you would end up killing her after telling her what to do 40-50 time lol

If no luck I may give you a shout

I'm used to that (not killing her because that would be weird, but being patient...)

Yep Library defintiely a good starting point.

Not all elderly people are technophobes. My Nan (RIP) was definitely ahead of her time, she had a Playstation, knew how to use her dvd player etc and was just starting to consider using a computer when she got ill. It's ashame as I'm sure she'd have loved it. My Mum always said her Mum was born in the wrong era.
