Hey all
I have a weekend in Bristol coming up...blokes weekend away.

where do you knowledgeable locals recommend to eat and drink?
Somewhere with good steaks for one evening and a curry house for the other evening.
decent ale houses? followed by nightclub/nightclubs afterwards both nights

thank you VERY much in advance

Eating and drinking in Bristol- My specialist subject!

I can't really make any informed recommendations on the steak issue, however there are plenty of great curry houses in and around the centre. I'd also recommend Thai Edge below the new Radisson hotel.

Best area for late night drinking/nightclubbing is probably Park St and the Waterfront. There are loads of late night bars on Park St, and then various nightclubs such as Java, Oceana etc which are quite large and tacky smile

Where are you staying?

Myristica is supposed to be excellent for curry. River Station is excellent generally, you should certainly get a good steak there. Personally I would head into Clifton.

I have heard mixed reviews about Mystirica however would like to go there. For general "Civilised" drinking Clifton is very good. If the weather's good King Street is ideal for a few alfresco ciders.

If you fancy a very big feed then Cosmo do an Asian all-you-can-eat buffet for £15 a head. Great range and quite decent food. But you won't be drinking afterwards hehe

I know this... smile

I was just about to recommend Cattlemans on Park street for a steak, but a google has revealed it's closed!

They are linking to this place from their site which is still up and running though: http://www.mickeylavins.com/

The centre of Bristol tends to have the more commercial type bars (Pitcher & Piano, Vodka Revolution, Weatherspoons, Lloyds etc) and clubs (Oceana, The Works, Reflex, O'Neils etc) , most are found on Corn Street, Baldwin Street and the harbour side. The centre is populated mostly by drunken yobs and younger crowds, much like any town centre.

Park Street and Clifton tend to have the more ecletic / independant type bars and clubs and generally attract an older range of patrons.

If you and your group like your cider then head for the Coronation Taps in Clifton http://www.thecoronationtap.com/

Also up in Clifton is the Avon Gorge hotel, it has a really nice outside area over looking Avon gorge and the Clifton suspension bridge. If it's sunny it'll be rammed, but it's a nice place for an afternoon / early evening drink.

Wasn't going to say it, but that particular town is a Mecca for fun ladies.

I'm genuinely shocked that it has closed.

Was always busy when I went.

Clifton is the place to go if You have any class about You, the White Lion pub has a great view of the Bridge to have a few drinks then some great bars and pubs around Clifton. Oompah night at the Bierkeller is incredible though, very different.

Could try the Cow Shed on Whiteladies Road. Had a meal there a few weeks back, was good, but seemed expensive, for 4 of with a main and desert the bill was about £120. And we weren't even drinking alcohol. Dunno how that compares to normal type restaurant though. As has also been suggested, you could try Cosmo, you will definitely leave feeling full up biggrin

I'd steer clear of the waterfront, and wouldn't go past Park Street. You'll just end up surrounded by wkers if you do.

Clifton for some drinks and then on to The Triangle for some of the clubs is normally a good combination.

Might be a bit quieter though now all the students have cleared off.

This. Also Racks on St Pauls road is a great spot, you can even reserve an area if you like. One thing I would say is if you are a large group of blokes its best to ring places up first and clear it with management. I've been out a few times in groups and not got in due to being in a large male group.

La Rocca on The Triangle is a hoot of a club - kicks out around 3ish.

Avoid Lunar (near Racks) like the plague!
