Spending a few days in Barnstaple next month. Never been to the Devon north coast before so any recomendations for scenic drives, nice pubs, reasonably easy walks for middle aged fatties and stuff to do much appreciated.

Head over to Croyde, park at the first car park as you come round the headland. It's £3 or £4 for the day.

Walk down steps and along the beach, then head towards Baggy Point. There's an outrageously fab cream tea to be had at the National Trust tea shop. If feeling guilty take a walk along the path to Baggy Point. A lovely stroll. If hungry on the way back the Surf Cafe does lovely crab sandwiches in the garden overlooking the bay.

The Thatch and The Manor both do good food in Croyde.

Mooch around Barnstaple Pannier market too. Lovely home made local produce (awesome mango chutney!) and a fine array of "stuff".

Braunton Burrows is ace for wandering about followed by a trip to Squires for fish and chips smile

Saunton Sands is the best local beach, decent parking, cafe etc. Lovely place to be.

Some great drives around the lanes towards Lynton and Lynmouth (both worth a look) although my fave hoon involves Blackmoor Gate on Exmoor.

If you're going down the A361 to Barnstaple use the right foot sparingly. BiB hide out in a number of cunning places.

Those are my top tips smile

Valley of the Rocks is worth a look. There is a great little Toll Road there somewhere too.

All of this, plus Putsborough is a lovely beach (my joint favourite UK beach and great for surfing)

There is a little motoring museum in Porlock, private collection of a chap originally from oop north.

Essentially it's his whole life and cars in an old 1930's garage that will blow you away.

Quite stunning to be honest and well worth a visit.

Also just up the road from Lynmouth which is lovely.
