I used a company called MDC Auto http://www.mdcautoelectrical.co.uk/
Speak to Mark on 07976 276021
He came to my place in Melksham, replaced the entire stereo setup in my Grand Cherokee for me (a total bh of a job) and also did some stuff on the Impreza and 306 as well.... I'd recommend him.

I used to do a lot of high end instals back in the day, you're a bit far away from me though. I'd be happy to talk you through doing it yourself but the easiest thing to do is to change the head unit for one of the spec you need. Buy a harness adaptor to convert to ISO and simply plug and play.
PM me if you need to.

I think Mrs Saleen (it's her car) wants to keep it as standard as possible, been looking on ebay for the upgrade cd head unit.

Is it an E46? Iirc, adapter plates can be purchased to convert the slot to a standard DIN size. Any off the shelf stereo and a wiring harness. Careful selection of the stereo should maintain the aesthetics of the dash and easily reversible for re-sale.
changing yours for an upgrade BMW model may not be as straight forward. The wiring to USB and iPod connectors are probably part of the car's main loom. If not required when the car was built, both the sockets and cables may not be present. Before spending money, check for cables in normal socket location (armrest?).
Alternatively, check the back of the stereo for any aux inputs, or check specs of your stereo model on-line.
