Ayup.

We have our nice regular meet, but we dont go out for a drive though do we?

Perhaps into the spring and summer, we could meet up at our usual time, 7 to 7.30'ish, then maybe have a bit of a drive, A to B, A being the Anchor, and B being another pub, not too far away, but enough for a run and maybe a stop at a chippy. I am really missing my Pukka pie & chips.

An idea to discuss at the next meet, on the 30th.

Toodle pip.

If A is anchor, does the other pub have to start with B? scratchchin

Yes good idea that Warren. It is always good to get a little drive in convoy to go with the chips and soft drinks... I wouldn't mind some pie either thumbup

I'd be up for that provided it was dry (I'd want to have the roof down so I could hear the other cars to full effect)

I think we should keep pub/social meets as just that, and arrange a drive out/hoon on a different night or weekend. But no doubt I'll tag along with the rest.

This idea never took off when we first started the meets in the car park at Matlock.

For it to succeed, everyone would have to be at a certain pub at a set time given that not everyone can arrive at the first one at say 7pm.

I did used to enjoy the trip to the chippy though

Scarey Mary says hi! wavey

There are some really nice pubs in the area that would be worth migrating to during the lighter months
The Horse and Jockey in Wessington is nice, and there's even a chippy there too!

That sounds worth a try.

Say "Hi!" to Mary from me hehe

I wonder if my loss of poundage has something to do with by abscence from the chippy scratchchin

You know what? I prefered the other place in a lot of ways, the run to the chippy, the ale was not served at sub zero temps like lager, they had the choccy bars, and although scruffier, it was cosier. Apart from John & Jean who are lovely, I dont much like the Anchor.

Anchor venue has much better car parking/access roads for the busier spring/summer/autumn meets though, Warren.

BTW, the (fabulous) chippy at Wessington is only open 3 days per week and i am fairly sure it is closed Tuesdays.

I'm not getting into the "where we meet" debate. I only go for the company anyway, it could be at motorway service's for me. When dose Shardlow start again?

I only go for the company and to look at cars. On a purely selfish and practical note, PLEASE don't decide to meet even further from Stafford than we do already.

To me requirements are:

Pub
Car Park
Good Beer (even if I can only have one)

I don't like the current venue, sorry but it's not cozy, it's pretty bland. I found my window seat uncomfortable and I wasn't at all impressed with the cob & chips or price. I don't like the sitting in a circle layout as it's rude to talk across people. I like to move about a bit and talk on a one to one basis or in small groups 3-4 people. I really miss the chip shop run where we can passenger in different cars and mingle outside the chippy. Bentleys are my preferred ride but I'll settle for a tvr if times are hard Car parking was never an issue for me but for those with low slung steads I know there may be issues but I wasn't aware of problems before? I enjoyed the blast up the hill to the last pub on tiddley boost I'd be happier seeing some alternative venues put forward or trying out new places every few weeks. I'd be happy going back to Matlock as a main venue.

What do others think?

I would imagine Shardlow starts again in May. Might be April I suppose depending on the weather.

The other more southerly venue that might be worth a visit once in a while is the John Thomas (sorry, John Thompson) at Ingleby.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=DE73+

HAs its own brewery which is still active so far as I can tell from the searches.

Seems to have a reasonable car park and a few nice country roads and the A50 within reach for those who wish to take a tour or a blast if circumstances allow.

Chippie would require a somewhat longer blast than Starkholmes. I'm guessing that one of the emporiums in Chellaston would be closest but there may be others nearer. I think the pub might also be a source of fodder.

Reasonable access from the north and south via A38 and east/west via A50. Also cross country options from Shardlow/Melbourne/Ashby and probably Burton but I don't know that side much. Probably worth checking out even if it ultimately gets the thumbs down as a regular haunt.

This is one of the pubs that was suggested when we moved from Starkholmes. A chippy in Repton, Ticknall, Melbourne, Willington or even Castle Donington would be good. Although one in Weston on Trent would be even better for a blast.
