Are there any airfields still around with access and no-one to chuck you off?

I need to show someone the basics before driving lessons.

Memories of Sandtoft....sideways with much smoke, and the look on the learner lady's face coming the other way....

I`d say not too bad. Potholes are easily avoidable. It`s used for "sprints" every now and again. I lived right next to it for 42 years, but now moved 10 miles away, so I`m a bit out of touch. It was always popular with learners though.

you could get on the one at Langar, near Notts at one time. I don't know if you still can though.

you can get onto swinderby but the security guy comes out after a while and asks you to leave.

used to take my minimoto down there with about 6 others, great fun, after his first "words" with us he didnt bother us again,

security bloke said "your not allowed here"
I said we aint kids trying to break into the hangars or nowt,
he said "what if you hurt yourself, I dont want you claiming for damages"
I showed him my bleeding knee and ripped open stomach and pointed out that getting hurt is all part of the fun.
he said ill get sacked if my boss sees you on here
I said Ill tell them you told us to go away.
he looked at me funny for a min.
I did a wheelie down the way past him, came back dropped the bike on the floor and said OK cheif, your turn, bet you cant do a wheelie.
at which point he turned around and said, do what you want, if anyone asks ive chased you twice already and youve come back, to that we said deal, and we where back racing around the runway whilst he went back to his office thingy and we went every few days till we got bored of the minimotos

youd get your car on there no probs, PM me and ill tell you how (the obvious routes are blocked with large tree trunks to stop the pikeys), just not sure how long youll stay on it for.

Norton aerodrome

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think that's closed down. Took my daughter on it years ago.

It was never an airfield, but barrage balloons were operated there by the RAF during WW2. You can still see the big hangars that housed the balloons and their kit.

I dont think you can get on langar anymore, i tried some time ago and was told "politly" where to go.

You could try Barkston Heath near Grantham, Javelin Trackdays use it. They quote :- "Ideally situated just of the A1 near Grantham in Lincolnshire. This Airfield venue offers an extremely smooth tarmac course which is ideal for all vehicles including Single Seaters. Also a concrete surfaced Slaom / Drift course."

Thought that was an operational airfield attached to Cranwell?
