After a Favour - Rover V8 based
Discussion
Got a small issue with the Chimaera and idealy need to try swaping a component with a healthy one before I get the wallet out.
I've got idle/tickover issues and according to my trusted local TVR independant spanner man the guilty component is either the idle control valve/stepper motor or the ECU, hopefully it's the stepper moter (yes it has been cleaned ) but it would be nice to pop one out a healthy car and give it 5 minutes in mine to see if cures it, and I can then spend my hard earned in the right place for a change.
So anyone with a Rover V8 car in the Nottinghamshire area with 15 minutes to spare, it would be greatly appreciated in beer vouchers if I could 'borrow' a stepper motor for 5 minutes, I could come to you with my spanner, or it's not long to the Chatsworth do, if someone's going there and doesn't mind my borrowing it then that could be arranged.

You can check the stepper is working, at the ECU connector check the resistance between pins 1 and 26 and also 28 and 29, in both instances the resistance should be 40 to 60 Ohms.
or if you prefer to do it at the stepper motor end, the pins corresponding to the Red/Green wire (ECU pin 1) and Green/White (pin 26) wire and the pins corresponding to the blue/grey wire (pin 28) and the orange wire (pin 29)

If you have idle/tickover problems which you suspect may be caused by the stepper motor, then get the engine idling at about the right speed and then disconnect the plug to the stepper motor. If the idle speed still fluctuates you can eliminate anything to do with the stepper motor, you are looking for an air leak or some other fault affecting fuel or ignition.

Sorry for sounding a little thick, but.....
So I get the engine to tick over at about 1k and before it changes it's mind and pops back up to 1.4k I whip off the stepper motor plug.
So now should it just sit there at 1k? The problem is quite intermitant so it may have held at 1k anyway, do I blip the throttle, and see if it sits back at 1k with the plug disconnected?
