The 15 year old OEM exhaust on my Hyundai Coupe is blowing. Looked underneath and the hole is in one of the joining pipes to the backbox from the centre pipe (2 back boxes, dual exhaust). Common area for them to corrode.
Apparently the centre pipe itself never goes bad. 'Blueprint' OEM style exhausts ive heard rust out pretty quickly so may as well go with a stainless steel set up.

Can anyone recommend an exhaust specialist? I live in the midlands but willing to drive quite far for the right place and a reasonable price.

Considering MIJ in Walsall but heard mixed reviews. Apparently Pipewerx in Lancashire is a good one too, and Custom Chrome in Nuneaton.

Is there a go-to place among PHers?

Most Longlife exhaust centres will make you a system (or part-system) - the quality of the workmanship is slightly variable, but the materials are controlled by the franchise, so are very good

The systems come with a lifetime warranty, so you can't really go wrong

The Longlife system on my Fiat Coupe 20VT has done about 150,000 miles, so durability is excellent

I had MIJ in Walsall make one for me years ago, and was quite happy with it.

Really depends where you are I guess, as if it's a simple exhaust repair I wouldn't go a long way, most exhaust shops could do it for you. My local indy (not an exhaust place, just a garage) repaired my Golf exhaust a couple of weeks ago, for example, when it was in for service/MOT.

Post in the Midlands section as well?

If you want an exhaust place, I went to Torqueflow in Birmingham for another repair (blowing exhaust on a different car) about a year ago, was very pleased with the price/ service/ quality, the guy there is Immy.

TW Tyres in Rugby made a new back section for my S-Type for less than the price of an aftermarket part. Superb quality.

I agree - they are also part of the Longlife group, but they use slightly lower quality materials (and I'm not sure if they have a lifetime guarantee)

EDIT - yes, they also have a lifetime guarantee
