Time: 5.00am
Start Point: LEAVING Waitrose on the Penn Road in Wolverhampton WV2 4NJ at 5.00am & The Acton Arms in Morville at 5:20am.

Via: Bridgnorth - Craven Arms - Ludlow - Knighton (STOP) - Crossgates - Newtown (STOP) - Ceri - Church Stretton (STOP) - Much Wenlock - Bridgnorth.

It's about 140 miles of quick driving through completely empty roads at this time of the morning. Hundreds of bends and wee twisties for the MINIs and plenty of quick stops with good scenery and oodles of sheep too.

Unfortunately the only place open for food at this time is MacDonalds in Newtown where we'll be stopping for a breather and a Sausage & Egg McMuffin (ewwww) at around 7:30am. Least we'll get served quickly.

On to Church Stretton for 8:30am for a quick photoshoot amongst all those beautiful hills with no-one else around and then blast back to Bridgnorth (or wherever you live) and back to your beds before anyone else is even up.

It's worth the early start, believe me. Who's interested?

Sounds like a good run.

I would do if I wasn't racing in South Wales that weekend... and I hadn't moved to Essex from Staffs!!

Good luck, and watch out for that wildlife!!

Hope the car gets put back together again .
We had a couple of people interested in seeing your SD1 so I hope you bring it out soon!

Sorry bout that!

For the record its just a 2600 Auto, though if all the bits arrive, it could be a manual by Monday morning, im still deciding whether i want it as a motorway cruiser an get the Wedge on the road this summer as my "proper" car with a 'proper' 'box, the kick down has caught me out in corners a couple of times and left me with a brown pants moment or two. If i dont convert it this weekend, i still have to sort out a few problems, like a dicky starter and other electrical woes.

There are two SD1 on the drive, the other is my dads and is a 2l manual, that's getting the V8 treatment this summer, we've done all the prep work, brakes suspension etc.

Ultimately I'm going to put a V8 into mine, whether its an RV8 or "something special" is open to debate.

Dont worry, i intend to turn up to an insomniac run soon!

Regards
Iain

Weather doesn't look so good but me & my b/f will still be doing the run at 5am so hopefully see some of you there. No probs if it's raining - plus we do realise it's an extremely early start too! Very difficult to drag yourself out of bed, especially on a Sunday morning!!
See those of you who are coming in the morning and for those who don't - hope to see you next time at a more reasonable hour!

Thanks to Cooper_Si, Restyle, Pete, Crunchie & Salopian (from VX220.org.uk) for coming with Scott & I Sunday morning.

I had a fantastic time, even with the 4:30 alarm and the rush for petrol at 5am, making us a teeny bit late for the 5:20am meet at Morville. I reckon we probably woke quite a few people up - but, c'mon, it was turning out to be a beautiful day - we're doing them some good!

First casualty was a big fat pheasant that bent my mirror back on the way from Wolves to Bridgnorth whilst following a rather nippy Golf VR6 at 5:15am. Once the run started from Morville, hardly any cars were seen and overtaking wasn't required until we left Newtown at 7:45am on the final stretch.

Plenty of challenging and exhilarating driving was had, particularly with the addition of suicidal sheep, very large bumblebees and farmers waving sticks......either in anger or support, I don't know.
The beautifully twisty Crossgates road was a treat as always - and without any bikers (for once!). I, in particular was nearly caught out quite a few times through the switchbacks - I've yet to master doing them at high speed but I'm learning.....quickly.
The three VX220 Turbos were quick off the mark but round the bends, with quick and efficient driving, both Cooper _Si and myself were keeping up. Big up to the Cooper S power.

The Newtown stop was well earnt after the 20 or so miles of the Crossgates road and McDonalds was as delightful as we expected, with a soggy McMuffin something or other to tide us over till the end. Don't know what the E numbers and grey stodge did to our brains but we covered the final 35-40 miles at lightning pace. One final stop was quickly made in Craven Arms for the VXs to fill up their tanks....again.

Arrived back in Morville for roughly half past nine and with the day ahead of us! Have to say though, was in bed by half eleven and got up at 4pm - very very tired. Went out for another blast yesterday afternoon to wake us both up and did some handbrake turns on grass, showing off to the chavs in sunny Bridgnorth.

Thank you once again to everyone who came. We'll run these Insomniac runs occasionally if anyone is interested but the Mixed Meets will be running once a month (usually the last Sunday per month) as usual.
