I'll soon be moving, need good access to Leister, Kettering, Northampton and Nottingham. Where's good, preferably fairly quiet but with good access to shops and some life.

Lutterworth? Market Harborough would be a good shout, but it's less easy to get to Nottingham.

[edit]If I'm suggesting Market Harborough, I should probably also suggest Rothwell, as my parent are looking to sell their house there, it's a bit smaller than Market Harborough, but quieter, still has a few shops etc.

Rugby is also good location wise, I loved living there, but maybe wouldn't describe it as quiet. [/edit]

Northampton to nottinghamis quite a trek and not possible on a train without a change. There are some lovely parts of the world up here from the sounds of it, focusing on the smaller towns is a topd idea. So harborough, loughborough, ashby, leicester outskirts (blaby, whetstone etc)', stoneygate in leicester,

What about oakam and rutland??

I commute from leicester to market harborough/corby every day and its about 45 mins for the latter

Rugby is also expensive especially after the WCML upgrade bringing London a bit nearer. . There's a lot of little villages off the A426 past Lutterworth. close M1/M6/A5 and A4304( Mkt Harborough). There's also a lot of little villages close to but north of Rugby.

Ashby is ok. Right in the A42

Have lived in both shepshed and now Coalville. Both are ok. Not the best nightlife or reputation but you get more for your money. Easy taxi rises into nightlife!

Great access to M1. Other places to look at: groby, markfield, glenfield, ratby etc can easily get to all those places you mention.

Have you looked at the loughborough area?

Depending on your budget theres some lovely little villages, Swithland, Rothley, Woodhouse, Or if a lower budget theres plenty of other places. Great access to M1, M6, train stations etc.

You can't go too far wrong with Oakham or Uppingham including their surrounding villages (Lyddington, Braunston, empingham etc) I commute from Market Overton to north Leicester every day which takes 40 minutes, Kettering is 30 minutes away. Rutland is a great place to live, lovely countryside Stamford not far away which is a lovely little town and plenty of nice little eating/drinking holes

Not really b'leys although it is often listed as such

Anstey Heights is its correct title

The main B'leys is the other side of the outer ring road and has a bit of a rep !

lets be honest, Beaumont Leys is one of Leicester's most horrible areas (crime & drugs central) don't buy anything near the place. Much better in the Shires

I'd go back to Oakham, and having the train station means travelling East & West are Stamford/Peterborough or Melton/Leicester. Easy to get to if you need more access to shops and some livelier life. Also makes that London Village very easy and quick to get to.

Oakham looks very central for your needs with Kettering and Nottingham being North & South.

Voujon for a curry and the Grainstore for a pint - sorted biggrin
