Hi guys,

My move nearer London has fell through so I am looking at Coventry now. 1hr away on fast train although the ticket is £7500...but hey ho.

I have been told Binley (sp?) is good? CV3?

Cov seems to be a good jumping off point location wise for work also. Hence another reason for a move there..

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Hi mate,

Binley isn't the best area in my opinion. If you're looking to commute then do you want to be fairly close to the train station? Earlsdon, Styvechale and Cheylesmore are all fairly decent (although like anywhere there are better and worse bits). Finham School (I assume secondary) is one of the better schools and near all three areas although I don't think Earlsdon is in the catchment area.

If you have any questions then just fire away.

Hi. Yeah I would like to be near the train station. I have been told CV3 is near? I work with a fella who lives in Cov.

Parts are, but the whole city is split into about six main postcode areas so CV3 stretches from the edge of the town centre out to the edge of the city. Maybe try using the tool on Rightmove where you can draw an outline around the area you'd like to live in?

Rugby isn't bad, easy to get to station, and slightly nearer London.

Has the best secondary school in the country, and one of the last Grammar schools. Not my opinion on best, was voted, although I can't quite believe that,

Rugby itself is an utter sthole with only one redeeming feature - the School. The rest of the town centre is a depressing mix of concrete, chavs and druggies. It is well-nicknamed Drugby. And I have a Rugby postcode...

However, around and about are some lovely villages with easy access to the station and I would certainly choose one of these in preference to Coventry, although Cov does have one or two nice bits but they are quite expensive.

Seems you get a lot more house in Rugby though compared to Cov.

Is Rugby like Wolverhampton? We are moving from Wolverhampton and wolves is fuking depressing!

I avoid it where possible. The missus worked there for 15 years and couldn't wait to get out. There are some nice areas, however.

Wolverhampton is a metropolis compared to Drugby. Don't go there after 9pm, you'll be disappointed. Or mugged.

There's a lot of competition for places at the grammar school. I'd make sure you have a plan B before committing to Rugby and selecting a school.

Coventry is not an area I would choose to be with a family. Shire towns such as Warwick or Kenilworth or possibly Leamington are much less riddled with urban stress. I would definitely avoid Coventry. The unemployment levels in Coventry are dreadful and likely to remain so. In fact I know of nothing to recommend Coventry.

Property is much cheaper in Cov and Rugby than elsewhere in Warwickshire. To a large degree you get what you pay for.

Areas of south Cov can be quite nice.

Leamington is an hour away by train from London as well (tho different stations when you get there), so could be an option. Once you get into Warwick/Kenilworth and parts of Leam then expect to pay much more for the same house as in Rugby or Cov.

The higher prices reflect the better area. The place you live in you live is undoubtedly a major part of getting a decent life. I always bought the best I could afford and found the general neighbours, peaceful enjoyment etc absolutely as I expected. I never regretted that decision,

I moved from Rugby to Coventry earlier in the year and both have their plus points. For getting to London Rugby seemed better to me, but I can't comment on schools.

I preferred the centre of Rugby to Coventry, but am happy in Coventry too.

What you perceive as 'better' and what other people perceive as 'better' could be different things though.

If you wanted space and size for your money then Kenilworth isnt the place, but if you wanted a lovely high street and some fantastic pubs you wouldn't look in Coventry.

IMO property in Kenilworth is overpriced. You can go to the villages and get far more for your money. If schools are important then that is obviously a major factor, for me it isnt in the slightest and so I can save by being outside of the catchment areas.

Do they let outsiders into Nuneaton? My girlfriend says the schools in Nuneaton are bad, but I seriously wouldn't want to live there.
