Hi everyone,

Trying to organise some go karting with some mates of mine and being new to the Bham area, I'm not up to speed with which places are decent. Would ideally like outdoor, 2stroke if possible but without paying too much. Would be a weekend at end of Jan/ beginning of Feb for probably about 6-10 people!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

No where does 2 stroke kart hire due to high maintenance, so you''ll be stuck with pro karts.

Priory Park outside Tamworth is excellent, imo.

Indoors, The raceway in Oldbury

The rest aren't much cop IMO.

F1K karting 200cc karts indoors. Been there many times and its my favorite out of a bad bunch in Birmingham. All the karts are evenly powered unlike some places that have been posted. Reasonably priced too.

Edited to add, its cold enough being indoors racing, let alone outdoors at this time of year.

If you're prepared to drive the Daytona DO hire 2-stroke karts under their Daytona Max brand.

Worth the extra pennies for a bit of fun. Or more seriously, jump on a Club100 test day if they are running anywhere.

From memory you only really have Birmingham Wheels near Brum and it's not great for a 2 stroke there.

You also have Rye House who hire 2 strokes, but it's a long way away and not cheap.

I would avoid Priory park after a very poor experience on a friends stag do,

Booked months in advance for a grand prix type session, heats, semi final, final type affair, 20 drivers, 5PM start was more like 7PM once they had put us back for the arrive & drive walk ins, so it was dark by the time we were half way through the heats,

we started with 8 karts, 6 to race with & 2 spare, during practice 1 kart retired due to a wheel falling off mid corner, another retired with a broken chain, this left us with 6 karts to last us the whole night, within a couple of laps it was quite clear 2 of the remaining 6 were much slower than the other 4, by the time the 1st semi final came around another of the karts stopped. Attitude was very much thats all your getting so tough luck

Thanks, used to race at Rye House a bit with BUKC but it's really just for a group of me and my mates and I've decided we in all honesty don't actually need the 2 strokes- generally more faffing around, with DD and all that push to start stuff. Think the prokarts probably more suitable and considerably cheaper! But thanks for your suggestions regardless! smile

I've been to F1K and Wheels.

I didn't like F1K much. The circuit is very short and you can't overtake in the middle section. The layout's a bit boring and rectangular, although you can get the karts to lose grip round a couple of the corners. They used the penalty flags far too often for my liking. As it's quite a small circuit you end up bunching up, and contact happens.

Wheels has a much longer circuit, and a decent hairpin. The shape is more like a proper track. I'd go there again.

Daytonas are propper arrive and drive, centrifugal clutches and electric starters.

It really is worth the drive and extra money if some of your mates haven't been in a 2-stroke. smile

Sutton Circuit near Leicester is a great track. Have a look at their website: www.suttoncircuit.co.uk

They also run a hire kart championship with its own website: www.suttonkarting.co.uk

I thought Birmingham wheels was pretty good. Didn't like Priory and the karts there were naff too.

Whilton Mill is probably closer than Rye and a more interesting track
