Mellonhead stepping down as leader.
No doubt with a chunky golden goodbye.

I've heard a rumour that he is going to stand as a Rushcliffe councillor.

That’d be a tough decision - him or Ruth…

Edwards? She is the MP, Mellen has abandoned his ambitions in that direction, he says.

Just speaking to an ex local politician and he would have it that Mellen doesn’t get a pay-out, because he is the political lead.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the temptation to get his nose in the trough again is too much for him.

I'm back in Nottingham mid July for a few days, anything happening?

Left the High School in 1975, ended up in Coventry and then NZ in 2000.

You are unlikely to be amazed at how it has improved.

There’s a test match against the Windies. I’d say I’d meet for a pint, but I failed miserably last time. hehe

Nottingham plan to introduce tourist tax: https://westbridgfordwire.com/councillors-support-...

They'd be better off paying tourists to go there.

That is some serious arrogance there I reckon. There are loads of other cities that are miles better to visit than Nottingham for me. Talk about blowing your own foot off!

The last thing you'd want to be doing is putting folk off coming to Nottingham for me, because the place will be empty in no time for sure.

"The levy could bring in £1.7 million a year"...not when nobody comes it won't! What a crazy idea. I love Nottingham, it's my city, but I'm not so blinkered as to realise that it was left behind by numerous other cities a very long time ago! It will always be home, but a tourist destination it definitely isn't!

A friend of mine has recently retired as a director of Nottingham City Council. He has recounted to me how utterly insane they are, when it comes to financial matters. They will do things on idealistic bases that they simply cannot afford to do.

My personal opinion is that the Council massively overrates the desirability of the city. It isn't London, people won't beat a path to the city centre, regardless of what barriers are put in their way.

I agree to be honest. Once you scratch below the tenuous Robin Hood link, there's very little Nottingham offers as a tourism draw. It's basically a student camp now, and as far as the heart of the city goes, one that's dangerous to walk around at night (and sometimes the day!). The council is a shambles, and their financial mismanagement has meant the place will be on life support for a very long time.

It’s been proven that the council are indeed a set of loons.

Nottingham’s main draw for hotel accommodation is stag and hens at the weekend and sporting events. There’s not a hotel room to be had the back end of this week due to the Test Match.

It does get a lot of tourists who inevitably are deeply disappointed with the castle.

It’s the Castle isn’t it? Bit too far up for Fothergills.
