Posted this warning in the Yorks section, but as this road straddles both areas...

The road is shut and will be for 3 weeks, so plan your weekend blats accordingly.

Anymore info? Such as when it shut? Dates, times? Any idea why it's been closed? Be nice if it's to give it a lovely new surface ready for the summer.

Found some info:

B1257 Great Broughton, both ways between Bank Lane and High Street
B1257 North Yorkshire - B1257 closed and long delays in both directions between the Bank Lane junction in Great Broughton and the High Street junction in Helmsley, because of resurfacing work. Diversion in operation - Long Distance via the A173 through Great Ayton, the A171 to Ruswarp, The A169 through Sleights towards Pickering and the A170 back to Helmsley.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/york/roads/planned...

Doesn't say the dates, but will avoid until they have finished.

That's for letting us know.

Had a treat at the Feversham Arms this weekend, and to get there from Yarm rage What's the point of driving to Helmsley if you have to use the A19.......

Otherwise top time.

(I thought you were further out East in the boonies than Helmsley?)
When we moved up, we looked at a few spots, but Helmsley has the perfect mix of what you need in a rural community: excellent food, great pubs - enough not to get bored of one, cracking roads, and decent houses. Osmotherly was the other option, but I do prefer Helsmley. It's great in the summer sat outside the Feathers on a sunny evening oggling all the bike and car porn parked in the sqaure.

What was the food like, I haven't been in ages - I tend to favour the Hare at Scawton as I prefer the food there.

Oz is nice, but you can survive Helmsley easier.

The Feversham Arms was GOOD. a special treat for SWMBO big birthday and had a pool side suite (definitely a recommendation).
The Staff were superb, in fact almost made the place, and were one step from being OTT.
We had the taster Menu and Wine Taster too - (having never done that before....) and yes, thoroughly enjoyed it all.

The A La Carte menu from what I remember was a little limited in options.

Breakfast was a little disappointing - OH eggs were cold, the bacon a bit anaemic - (I) could do better.

A definite treat and I would go again, although the wallet had a tremble on checking out !
You should book your O/H in for one of their (Thursday IIRC) spa evenings. They're really good value for what you get - my wife goes with her mate every so often.

Last time I was in there for a beer - a mate was up and he'd never been - one of the bar staff was trying to talk one of their wealthier customers in to trying one their very old, very special brandies. They were £50 and £100 a glass! The chap actually bought one too.

Have you tried the Hare? Well worth a visit.

Sorry chaps, forgot to update.

Now fully opened. They've resurfaced a lot of the road, although sadly few of the bends that needed it IMO, and chopped back a lot of trees on Newgate bank (if you know the road) which means a little more warning against the stupid kamikaze Deers that love leaping out on motorists.

Bad accident closed the road today. Biker and caravan I think. Hope he's ok.
