Hi all, my son has a Vauxhall Astra VXR, owned for 6 months, its 5 year old. 2 weeks after buying it the battery went - lost all charge, no green light etc and in fairness the garage he bought it off provided a new one. However, exact same symptons now - car becasme difficult to start and the battery lost most of its charge, no green light on it again.
My thoughts are that either the alternator is not working as it should (although the alternator light goes out when running) or there is a short somewhere on the circuits degrading the battery over time.
Main dealer want £60 plus VAT just to put it on the machine, then the cost of whatever needs changing.
Fraid he's on a tight budget so is there a good indepepdnent that anybody can recommend in the area equipped for auto electrical problems?

Take it to cliffs service station in Grangetown. My dads very good friend owns and runs it called Bryan. They've done thousands of Vauxhalls.
