As the title says...
I want to do some photography for a couple of friends and myself and want to take our 4x4's onto the beach. Not to rag about just get some nice shots. What beaches can you legally and safely drive onto in the North East?

I don't think you can legally drive on any beaches (but I am happy to be proved wrong) as to which ones you can get onto easily that depends how far north or south you are.

South Shields area, I know there are a some up near Drurich Bay direction that you can get onto ,but I'm not sure if they are legal or not, but I was sure that there are a lot of beaches over the country that are legal. Brean Beach in Wales is, that's where the MDOCUK did a small meet a few years ago...

This one was taken on a beach somewhere way down the south of the country not sure where, but it's this type of picture we want to take...

I know that there's the beach road over to holy island but this is a metalled causeway.

I'm sure there are some up here that are perfectly legal to drive on to, but could be wrong.

A guy who lives near my girlfriends house has one of those Mitsubishi turbo Safari wagon things, complete with "fire and rescue" decals on it. I've never, ever seen it muddy or with anything more than general road dirt on it, making me think it's just a general use daily driver. Personally I don't see the attraction to using one for such purposes, but I still give it a look when I see it out and about, because it's somewhat more interesting to see than a general Hyundai box that I seem to see hundreds of every day.

As far as i am aware its not legal as such anywhere, look at the offence of "driving otherwise than on a road"

Yep they do get a lot of 'looks', these are much more capable in the mud than the Hyundi Starex or Mazda Bongo's as they have a proper 4x4 box with Hi/Low ratio and difflock, the 4x4 model (probably the most common) has the same sort of capabilities as a Discovery, but has much more room, and versitility I use mine as an off-road campervan, as I've fitted hob, grill, sink, cupboards, the seats turn and fold into all sorts of layouts including a double bed, or can be folded away so the back is like a van. My Mrs hated it when she saw it, but loves it now.
Don't be fooled by it's clean look mind, mine is always pretty spotless but I do take it out to the odd pay and play day and have ventured up a few green lanes, I just give it a good clean straight after. I'm now banned from cleaning her at my local garage, I clogged their drains and caused their hand wash area to flood. Doh!!! This is my beast....

It must be said, If I was doing a north to south drive of Africa or somewhere I'd do it in one of those. Looks pretty much like nothing could stop it, though I'd probably spec an uprated intercooler to help keep things running smoothly in the equatorial zone.

There's a cracking video in about 15 parts on Youtube where a guy drives his with a couple of other 4x4's from Melbourne to Moscow, well worth a watch... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUuOtT9rhkY
