Hi, my 911 is due a major service and i'm just wondering which Indy is recommended?

Anyone had any experience with these;
Tom ferguson in Newcastle
Strasse in Leeds
Porschetek in Leeds

I'd rather not use them but is Newcastle OPC any good?

Redline Racing on Teesside Industrial Estate in Thornaby http://www.rlracing.co.uk/
or
Tom Ferguson in Newcastle http://www.tomferguson.com/

Both very good from my experience. You won't go wrong with either. wink

Tom ferguson is closest to me so I may take it there although it's the most expensive quote I've had so far by over £100. Nearly same as OPC price....

Hi Josh,
Get a price from Tom Ferguson, then ring Jamie Nelson, Nelson Porsche, Stockton. I'd imagine you'll get a pleasant suprise.
Tell him Mark with the 964 Turbo sent you, I started out as a customer but, he's a good mate now. He's a sound lad and has saved me an absolute fortune over the years.
Yeah, you'll need a lift back but, put it this way, I live in Cramlington and I use him. I usually drop the car off one Saturday and pick it up the next.
I hope you get sorted.

PS. An example of how much he bends over backwards for his customers :-
I needed a new alternator belt idler pulley. Price from Porsche = £126 + vat. Jamie cross-matched it and found it's also used as a Ford Mondeo timing belt pulley. Price = £30.

ETA - He hasn't got a website or tiled floors but, the service is up there with the best of them!
Also, Tom Ferguson has a very expensive racing habit to fund. wink

OT - Hi Sam (Rawky jnr). Hope you and your dad are keeping well! smile

Yep, Malton are one of the best around but, you pay for it.
I prefer a happy medium. You don't need to pay Malton prices for the best knowledge. They are good though and I do hope to buy a car from them one day. They only touch the best of the best, sales wise.

I phoned TF this morning and have booked it in with them for this Thursday for a major service + brake fluid change. It's not the best price out there but the closest place to me. I'll let you know how I get on and thanks for the advice guys!

I now work a minute walk from there, have still managed to avoid a lunchtime wander round so far, although very tempted.

Just to update I used Tom Ferguson Porsche but wasn't happy with their service and wont be using them ever again.
They just weren't interested at all, I asked them to put in on the diagnostics machine to diagnose a faulty MAF sensor and they never bothered. I also asked about the general condition underneath the car and they were clueless, just seemed to want my money and get me on my way.
I marked my oil filter just to make sure and guess what I've just been under the car today and the car has the same oil filter on before my car went in for its major service frown

Anyways I've since been in contact with the guy at Nelson Porsche in Stockton and he will be doing me a clutch and RMS/IMS bearing change. He seems interested and a lot more knowledgeable.

Cheers.

Evenin' Josh,
sorry to hear of your problems. I've always thought Tom Fergs prices were very top-endy but, if that's right about the oil filter, that's just plain wrong!! eek

Anyway, as I said above Jamie will look after you. His dad John started the company years ago but, it's just J there now. He grew up around Porsches and has a genuine love for them!

Mine will be going down by May for a service, when I eventually get time to dig it out from hibernation!!
Good luck getting sorted! and tell Jamie, Mark says "I hope that bloody trackcar of his is going to be ready for May bank holiday!!" wink

Josh,
Another thumbs up for Jamie at Nelson he is a top honest lad who will do you a great job. Used him many times without issue. Would't trust TF to change a wheel to be honest, just doesn't seem interested and generally rip off merchant as proved unfortunately with your experience!

I've never used Tom Ferguson but I have popped in to have a chat with a view to them doing some work. As others have said, they couldn't have seemed less arsed to give me the time of day. Talked to me as if I knew nothing when there were major knowledge gaps in their answers to my questions.

Ended up doing the work myself, much more saitsfying and goes to show at least one of us knew what we were talking about.

As for the oil filter, I wouldn't stand for it. I'd be back in there playing merry hell for a refund, threatening trading standards and reports on every Porsche forum going!!!

Hello all, having read the posts regarding service in the NE I can give you my experiences over the last 6 years of 993 ownership. These are just facts. OPC, I tried them once for a 12k service, they ddn't use the correct oil or did a proper oil change. They fitted the wrong rated front tyres, N3's which didn't match the rear N4's & also managed to damage both front wheels in the process. The guys in the spare parts department are very good though & know their trade. I visited Tom Ferguson on one occasion & was spoken to as if I was a complete idiot & their prices match the OPC. Paint shops, I had my nose cone painted at Lloyd's, Porsche approved bodyshop repairer, it took 6 weeks, 3 attempts & £600. First attempt was the wrong shade, second attempt the lacquer had run, third attempt good but not perfect paint match, stone chips underneath the paint were still visible & for good measure they parked the car underneath a tree & covered it in resin. I took the car to a local backstreet paintshop who painted it for £120 & finished the job in 3 days plus a complementary wax.
Please note that these are just facts about my own experiences. I do all the work myself these days & find it very rewarding, it is a simple car to work on & the internet is always there to help the competent DIY'er!
Great forum! Regards.
