Hi, I am looking to plan a weekend away travelling from the Northeast across to the lakes stop over for 1 night, then up to Scotland the following day. As I have never been to Scotland for a number of years I am looking for suggestions of places we could travel to. Not to far North as we need to return to the northeast the following day.

( NICE ROADS, GOOD VIEWS, PLACES OF INTEREST)?

Thanks Rob

An overnight stay in a b and b in portpatrick is recommended (about 15 miles from stranraer) lovely little place, couple of decent pubs.

You could try this:
Newcastle A69 to Haydon Bridge then A686 to Penrith and on into the Lake District.
A592 to Kirkstone Pass and the minor road right to Ambleside. Follow the A591 to Keswick and the B5289 Honister Pass and on to Cockermouth. Book somewhere to stay and have a visit around the Jennings Brewery beerdrink
A595 to Carlisle and the M6/M74 to Moffat. A701 northand the B712 to Peebles
B7062 to Traquair right onto B709 (cross the A708 at the Gordon Arms Hotel)and then left tonto the B711 to Hawick.
A6088 through Bonchester Bridge and then right onto the B635 towards Newcastleton but turn left onto the C200 to Kielder then Bellingham and back to Tyneside.smokincloud9
