Now then. Think it's time to do some Xmas shopping, and we quite fancy Durham - what are the roads like up there? I'm thinking either A1 or A19 then A690 to get in...

The main roads are ok in consett so they should be 100% fine in durham. Consett generally gets a massive amount more snow than durham due to altitude.

Bit late, but that ^ seems a long way to go round, if you're aiming for the city centre. I find it's best to travel north on the A1M and leave at J61, passing through Bowburn. Or north on the A19, then come off at Wellfield flyover near Wingate/Castle Eden and travel west along the A181.
