Good morning

Does anybody know a company that can supply and fit carbon wrap to a bracket I've made for mounting a camcorder in my car?

Thanks

Joe

You could buy 3M Di-Noc off ebay and give it a go yourself.

You could try ROADHOG on here, he's down Teesside way and showed me some Carbon Fibre stuff he was working on a while ago. At very least he may be able to suggest the company he had dealings with.

For proper carbon fibre stuff around Teesside, use: http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/

They are based in Stokesley and very good.

As above, if you just want some wrap, use the 3M stuff. You can buy it off ebay or there is an offical 3M supplier in Barnard Castle: http://www.williamsmith.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction...

Thanks for all the info. I'm on to it! The project is to carbon wrap a mounting bracket I've made for a camcorder in my car. I'll post a pic when its finished...will be good for drives out and any track days next spring.

Thanks again

Out of interest did you do the ID course at Teesside?

Yep, I did BA(Hons) Industrial Design 1994-1997 and MA Advanced Digital Design 1997-1998.

Did you do the same course?

Small world - I was on the first intake of the dreadful ID&Marketing course. I finished in 95. Still it got me on my MSc in Ergonomics.

I can still remember the The joys of the Commodore Amiga DTP suite, with the two shiny SG machines that at the time only the masters course were allowed to use.

Sorry OP way of topic there.

No problem; I like interesting chat. My son got a first/BA Honours at Teesside Uni in Business Management and got a job 2 weeks later; thank heaven in today's economic climate.

Yes. I've already taken one of the mount, without the camcorder. I'll be mounting the camcorder tomorrrow and I'll take another one.

Briefly, I've incorporated an 'arm' into the headrest legs and extended it out to coincide with a suitable position to mount the camcorder. It's mounted on a camera ball joint arrangement so plenty adjustment; up/down/left/right. I've also carbon wrapped the 'arm'.

First pic here; more tomorrow.

That looks like a tidy job. Is that a good place to have it mounted though ?? Right behind your neck. I'm thinking of the damage that could do in the event of an accident. Could be messy, and perhaps life changing, should the worst happen.

One to think about...............

Thanks for your concern. The middle of the headrest is level with the back of my head (the bumpy bit, as it should be I understand)and can be angled further forward if necessary. The bracket is tucked under the headrest and is effectively tucked far enough back and can't be accessed as the headrest is thick enough to prevent this happening.

Some more pics here:

I didn't know about those particular guys but I've been on other sites including Demon Tweeks and the problem is they mostly cater for brackets which fit to roll cages or are a bit unsightly for a road car as well as being difficult to mount in a road car. My solution is simple and effective. I've tested it and it works a treat; no vibration, good ahead view (I've got it set so that I can see my hands working on the steering wheel and I can see part of the upper dash) The picture is good and is coupled with JVC software for ease of use on my PC. The hard wood bracket was £1.17, the ball joint was taken from a mini tri-pod bought from the my local Pound Shop (£1) and the carbon wrap was £10. I did cannibalise my old Tom Tom suction bracket but it kept falling off. I think that was because of the curvature of the glass both front and side. Also I found the camcorder very distracting when set in front of me.

I've also bought a 16 gig 5 hr 42 min card (when used on fine resolution) and a 2100 mAh battery. The camcorder was a birthday present from my grown up children so I'm well chuffed.

I'm going to remove two of the four rubber grommets I used to space the bracket away from damaging the top of leather seat.

Here is a moving captured image from my setup. I'm not familiar with this sort of thing at the moment.

The badges don't stick in my back. I checked that before fitting them. I like the arms stretched position which means the seat back is raked to suit and I'm of a certain height!! There is in fact an S-line MK1 TT but the 'S' only refers to cosmetic changes to the original iconic TT.

The 'S' badges on my car refer to the specification of my TT:

Audi TT 225 Quattro Coupe
AMD remaped and Viper DV giving 268.1 bhp and 299.4 lbs ft on the rollers
Koni Sport fully adjustable dampers
Eibach Pro springs
Haldex uprated performace controller
Forge Motor Sport adjustable camber kit
Stiffer anti-roll bars front and rear
Brembo GT brakes fitted with Ferodo DS2500 pads
Competition brake fluid
Race diagnostics on board device
Extended rear wing
Extended throttle pedal to facilitate heel/toe
Powerflex bushes where it counts
Engine lubricated with Motul 8100 X-lite Ester Based SAE 0w/30 100% synthetic oil
Running exclusively on Shell V-power with added Miller's Octane plus (the latest mix)

The specification is way beyond the original offering from Audi. I might have left something out!!

Hope that helps

Joe
