Three peaks treasure hunt?
Discussion
I'm determined not to let the Three peaks idea dissappear so was wondering if a treasure hunt style tour might work.
As I said in the pub, the idea of certain groups having to start thier drive at midnight etc will put off the majority IMO, so why not have everyone set off at the same time but in three groups depending on location. The first group to a peak has to leave a trinket for the next group to locate and keep.
All three goups complete the course and discuss what trinkets were found via a thread.
Or....
Just have it as a big treasure hunt, you can compete individually or as part of a team over the whole weekend. Say 10 questions based on each location to prove you were there (more than just one set of questions to prevent cheating).
How does that sound - we could even have a winner based on amount of questions answered and maybe donate a prize.

Sad but I'm not sure how big this can be. I posted details on all the relevant 'regionals' but only hooked a couple from Scony Botland, one from the Lakes and none from Wales. The core players are NE & York’s and I expect Manchester area might join in too. This probably has something to do with me suggesting a Leeds start point but that was mostly because 24hrs spilt by timely meals on mountains works out with an early morning passing through Leeds.
I would be quite happy to do this as a NE&Y event. That way the planning is easier and others can join from afar if they wish.
As for treasure hunting, I'm up for it; we just need to find something that is workable. We could also have a set of awards as follows:
Hand in a set petrol receipts from a predefined set of filling stations and you get an 'Event Completed' award.
Everyone starts with a full tank and an adjudicator calculates least and most fuel used with awards for each.
Least miles could be an award but most people should be the same so I'm not sure whether 'miles' would work. We could do one for most miles because someone is bound to get lost.
Adjudicator could select the cleanest and dirtiest car after the event (entries only from cars that were clean at the start of the event) and give awards for those too.

i think we should do the run and we all guess how many pubs will be on route before we set off then start counting as we do it , closest wins

How about a start point at Ben Nevis at 4 p.m. on a Saturday, those who want to (who live miles away) can stay in Fort William the night before. Do Ben Nevis before its dark, hoon it down to Scafell Pike and start that one in the dark, then on to Snowdon for the finish?
A time-stamped photo taken at the top of each one, with the stone pedestal-plaque-thingy in view to prove the ascent?
Sounds like a great idea to do the 3 Peaks, anyway. Did it in 2001 in a cruddy transit that peaked at 60 mph downhill (on both rubber bands) in 23 hours and 39 minutes. It was a wicked laugh. Sleep deprivation and getting out of a warm motor into driving rain and howling wind the only downers. Doing it in class motors would be the icing.

Answers on a post-card please .......
The blonde is mine, OK?!
Special wellies with side-straps a must....
Joke: A farmer is having a driving test and the instructor says "can you make a U-turn?"
Farmer: "Make a Ewe turn? I'll make its fg eyes water!"
No?... OK
(Sorry to any farmers out there - you're free to come back with City Boy jokes now)
There are at least three routes up Scafell Pike that I can think of.... some are quicker than others. Wouldn't that affect the overall time taken? Personally, if I'm going to climb hills I want to feel like I've achieved something and wouldn't waste my time doing the Tourist Route: it'd have to be the Corridor or trek over the tops from [someplace I can't remember due to brandy ]
Also, not being funny but given the age and condition of some of us, is combining strenuous exercise and (relatively) long-distance driving a good idea? It'd be a bit of a p155er to doze off on the M62...
Not parping the pooty, just throwing things into the mix...

I'll have to dig out my shell garage locator and look for garages we could use as start, mid and finish points.
The missus knows where we can buy little plastic trophies for anyone completing the route.
I think as long as we keep it NE/Yorks it'll work and anyone wishing to join in does so on our terms.
