For Newcastle Quayside locals
Discussion
Hey guys,
After moving to Gosforth last year from Glasgow; I'm looking for a new place to stay from August and I find the Quayside quite tempting (as my new commute will be to Sunderland.)
There's a lot of nice places around, but I need parking for 3 cars whereas most of the places only come with one designated spot. One of my cars is a Ferrari 360 so ideally a garage or underground space would be ideal with 2 regular outdoor spaces. Does anyone know of any developments on the Quayside where there is ample free "onstreet/visitor parking" where I can leave the other 2 cars without permits or the like?
Cheers

Think you might struggle to be honest, space is very much at a premium (my office is just off the quayside). I'm sure you'll get secure underground space for your main beast, but a couple of other cars may be difficult. (Also not sure I'd recommend unsecure/street parking, just up from the quayside are some pretty unsavoury areas)
Hi mate,
Try mariners wharf where I am, its right on the river in front of the Hotel du Vin - you get a garage, a space in front of it and you can get 1 if not 2 permits to allow you to park on the road. In theory I could park 4 cars outside my flat. I've lived here a few years now and not even bothered applying for a permit yet as I just use the garage and the space in front of it. Permits are only 20 odd quid a year iirc.
If you want to know anything else let me know
Cheers
Bob

Might be best off on the Gateshead side if commuting to sunderland, plus it should be cheaper, and I imagine might be easier to find stuff with secure parking... the place between the high level bridge and redheugh (and maybe beyond) looks decent enough... or theres the stuff near the new Gateshead college campus but dont know what any of its like for parking, just an idea.

Cheers Bob, just what I was looking for! My mate lives in the development just north of you on Tyne street and he's always got some parking spaces left over too. How wide is the garage? Will a 360 fit?Try mariners wharf where I am, its right on the river in front of the Hotel du Vin - you get a garage, a space in front of it and you can get 1 if not 2 permits to allow you to park on the road. I've looked into Gateshead, but really want to stay in Newcastle.
Thanks

Thanks Bob, I'm back in newcastle on Monday so will give you a shout around then. There's some 2 bedders available which I'll go and view.
It shouldn't take that long to get over the bridges during rush hour should it? About 15mins?
Yeh I often have to cross over from the quayside to gateshead and during the morning rush your looking at 15-20min. I normally try to get across early, say about 730 when its not too bad, or closer to 9am.It shouldn't take that long to get over the bridges during rush hour should it? About 15mins?

(as my new commute will be to Sunderland.)
Since no one else has asked, why does your new commute have to be to Sunderland? I'm sure there must be some nice places there (or nearer than Newcastle)? Seems a bit strange, if you're moving anyway, not to try and be closer. I fear you may be under-estimating just how busy/time-consuming said commute could be.shoggoth1 said:

I really want to live in Newcastle as that's where all my mates stay and I like the hustle and bustle of it all. Most of my colleagues who work in Sunderland also stay in Newcastle so I'm willing to live with a commute of 40mins to 1 hour.Just got a viewing arranged at Mariners Wharf on Monday.
Was going to suggest Mariner's wharf but seeing as that has been done already it may also be worth looking at Gateshead Baltic complex. To all intents and purposes it's in Newcastle as you only have the millennium foot bridge separating you from Newcastle's quayside. It has secure parking and I know that there are a few lambos, ferraris etc use it so I suspect you can have more than one space. Would also potentially save several minutes on your commute by virtue of not having to cross the river, though generally the swing bridge isn't too busy in the morning anyway.
As said just before Gateshead Baltic, has secure parking at ground level at the flats. Martins (ex Newcastle Player ) lived there and parked his, Lambo, SLR, Porsche Gamballa and 430 there so must be pretty secure. Hell of a sight seeing them all lined up, they were all black but had nasy bling wheels on !
