Cars & Coffee - North East
Discussion
We in the NE suffer at times with all things motoring related in the lack of organised car get togethers.
Club events are fine, and occassionally when one lands on my day off I will attend, classic cars or whatever.
Nearest speed events are Croft or Knockhill/East Fortune. So not exactly handy.....
My brother lives Texas, and drives a Bentley GTC and every Sunday in Houston they do "Cars & Coffee"
Like this here....

Now supercars are not too common in the NE, but there are a few Im sure, along with lots of interesting classics, kit cars, street rods, 4x4s, and bikes.
Two things spring to mind immediately, safe venue without harrassment & no idiots in Novas !
It could maybe be a joint Sunday morning meet somewhere, park up and browse the cars and have a coffee and chat.
If you drive something interesting then it qualifies...
How does this sound?, anyone else got any submissions or thoughts.
It would be good to have somewhere local for a change & informal.
If its informal then knobs will turn up, it cheeses me off - blokes of a certain age cannot get together without be pestered ...
Your right though...
Maybe if it was invitation only , made through the various clubs locally, classics, kit cars, 4x4 etc.
Ie club members only - whichever club it is ...?
Sounds like a great idea. I'd certainly be up for it! My parents own a little Tea rooms in Rothbury and would probably be willing to look after us on the coffe side. Ideal driving roads in the area around Rothbury and a nice quiet car park on a morning before the start of the day that wouldn't attract the chav element due to being out of the city centre sort of area.
If I can help then drop me an email. I used to organise the North East runs out for the VX220 owners club back when I owned mine a few years ago, I think my highest attendence was 12 VX220s, 13 Elises, 3 S2000s and an M3 on a run to Whitby so I know a little about organising these sort of meets.
You may also want to consider attending the Metro Centre American car meet, 2nd Wednesday of every month from about half 6 out side Toys R us. Alot of nice motors go there from American Muscle to now old classics. Basicly any kind of car enthusiast.
However, I have been a regular reader of the forum for a long time now and I wouldn't see my self as a chav, have a respectable job selling prestige cars at a main dealer yet I drive a Nova as my play car so I am guessing I wouldn't be welcome to attend?
I think you maybe need to take a look at your snobby attitude to those less fortunate than your self who can't afford a car with a price tag of a year or 2s salory for most regular people in this world and look at the people for being a car enthusiast.
If your still reading at this point and haven't tuned out then let me know if I can help.
This is my Nova BTW
2.0 16v on Jenvey Throttle bodies running 193bhp so not your typical Chav machine?

ok we shall allow papiar mache cars too, just to let the soviet and eastern block in, and allow for any future tvr`s that may be developed in future to try and reduce the lotus plague .
before the rot boxes set in..
But didt someone once say "THE MEAK SHALL INHERIT" didnt think he ment piston heads though.

Ok point taken with the Novas, but you all know exactly what I mean ! and agree....
And no I dont drive a supercar, a ten year old Saab and a Lada does it for me.
My current project is a Fiat 126 , little Italian shed - 330bhp Rotrex Honda Blackbird engine, 6 speed on paddles with trickshifter. Coilover suspension, Wilwood brakes, Full spaceframe chassis and so on..
Kerb weight hopefully around 550kg...
So no Im not a snob and certainly didnt mean to piss anyone off, just up for a sensible meet a bit of a natter and a look at some cars.
I might have a look at the Amercian car meet - Thanks for the heads up. And Rothbury sounds perfect aswell..
PS Geordieboy - Cars and blokes is a vast subject , bit like women, thats why we dont all live/marry the same looking girl. Your car wont float my boat, just like mine dont float yours. My comments about Novas have been received as they were meant. I would hate a car meet spoilt with a dick in any car attracting attention to the meet.
My thoughts
First is, there is such a thing as a specialist sports car club in the North East, read up in this NE forum and its not hard to find it. Its run by 3 members on here, and is open to any car, but note only cars of a certain type are invited to most of the meets and runs out, although they do also offer some meets where all cars are invited. Meets are well organised, free of charge, and friendly enough.
Second is, there are runs out organised on here by me and one or two others. In fact we're currently exploring dates for the next meet, likely to be late July. These meets are open to any cars, but MaccyD Novas are generally not involved. Any cars are invited on the basis driving is kept sensible and safe. Yes we have fun and can be enthusiastic, but any silly driving will be frowned upon by organisers and others on here.
(Watch this space...)
ps if you want to organise something yourself, go ahead, I know myself and various others around these parts would be up for it as usual.
Edited to add, I understand there's a weekly/regular bikers meet right here in the NE which sounds just like you've described. Park up, have a coffee, bit banter, browse the bikes etc etc, if we wanted a similar weekly/regular meet with cars I'd be well up for it. Any thoughts from others?...

We had a very similar sounding fortnightly meet with the midlands PH. Threads will be in the archives for the Starkholmes/Amber/Plough.
Very simple format - nice pub with a big carpark. Anyone on PH welcome. Being out in the country there was little chav encroachment with just a few spectators popping by occasionally.
Over the years there was everything turning up. Race cars, hot hatches, Italian exotica and everything sizewise from Imps to Bentleys.
The problem with just sportscars meets is you miss seeing a '53 Chevvy truck parked next to a Ferrari.

The Midlands meet is exactly on the lines I am thinking about....
I apologise for not being aware there were already PH NE meets happening, I have used the site a while but dont visit that often.
A fairly good spread of cars & bikes would be great.
Even my 15 year old Lada has novelty value, and if I leave the hatch open its ideal for the rubbish.
Inviting the local clubs would appear to be worthy of further thought, is that what happens now or is it done solely through this site ?

Does the above meet still take place ?? someone said it had been knocked on the head by Metro Centre bosses...., like to think it was still alive !!

bloody hell.., thought it was finished, thank,s for the heads up !!
I think it did stop (certainly under threat) for a while, there's a thread on here about it I believe. The 'cruze'/chav/boy-racer element started turning up and their usual antics ensued and caught the attention of the Police. I seem to recall that a warning was issued that any car turning up the next month would be gone over with a fine tooth comb and if anything was wrong it would be impounded.shoggoth1 said:
