I think there is too much emphasis on trying to get a grand location to host this event.

VW started off as a small gathering of cars and its this small gathering that attracted more each time it was held. The event needs to be in a place open to the public i.e. a car park and centrally located.

If the car park was in a nature reserve or next to a river it would make it more scenic.

So, I propose that we keep the eyes peeled for a car park next to the river/nature reserve in the Durham area and we'll remember the old saying - KISS, Keep it simple stupid.

If anyone finds somewhere, please post it here. In the meantime, i'll be out and about looking for locations.

I know of a spot up near Derwent Resivour, comes with toilets. The chances of getting it empty, and the size is limited however. Good driving roads getting to and from tho.

What about Phickel (sp?) abbey in Durham? costs to get in to the car park, but has nice grassy area. Again it's a bit small but for the amount of cars currently going it shouldn't be a problem.

I thought the north east version was going to be further south in Yorkshire?

guess you mean finchale abbey?, near the Arnison centre in Durham. It is easy to find and the scenery is stunning.

It was supposed to be in Yorkshire, but i'll be buggered if I'm paying £6/person just to get in. So thats why I'm looking for a better location to suggest to them.

Me and a mate went up Alston yesterday and as we had stopped we jumped out to take some photo's. As we walked along the top of a field, said mate went "mooooooooo, oh no, wait, Baaaaaaah". The sheep in the field didn't look too impressed I'm guessing Andy you wouldn't make that mistake?

Finchale abbey, thats the one.

several mates went to Wales a while back, they came back most perturbed by the cans of lager and similar beverages in the field's around where they stayed. They didn't really want to question why there was a lot of sheep in the same field.
