Anyone able to help plan this. We need some local knowledge to choose a route. As said elsewhere we need to run this early because the Kielder roads get a lot of slow tourists once the weather hots up.

By the way, no route posting. We'll meet up at a designated place and get the planned route there. Best not to let lurkers know what we're doing.

why no route posting Bob? did anything come of it last time?

Tom suggested he knew the roads up there, but I'd be happy to head up one Saturday and get some routes planned...

Just a bit of friendly advice I received. It's probably sensible to keep quiet. There could be covert lurking by people who don't like us.

oh, it was suggested last time, but it was decided not to worry about it. Shame really, we can't discuss things we like doing openly

I was quite happy in that we didn't break any speed limits on the last run - meant I was quite happy to try and keep up.

Think I'll have to miss this one.
The car won't be ready by then, but depending on when it is I may be out of the country (which is a better excuse!).
Be careful about the roads you all independantly choose to drive on, there are some gated roads around there which slow down the run.

Sorry to hear that Chris, I was looking forward to seeing your Marcos. You'll just have to get a move on and get it back on the road.

When is a car not a car, when it's OTR

how about mid april? Or is the Harewood House taking place then? I break up from Uni on the 19th of March for a month so will have plenty of time to head up and plan a route if you desire.

Rightly I was steering away from April because 'Cars in the Park' will be the main April event. It would be sensible to do this run towards the backend of March so, Stafan, your help would be appreciated. I am hopeful that Tom will pick up this thread soon and help with the route etc. I haven't seen him post for some time now.

Unfortunately I'm out of all runs until May really. Down to finances, plus convienience. Got a lot of work to do at the end of March and then I'm off for 2 weeks it the beginning of April, down South.

That 2 weeks will cost a bit as the S gets resprayed then.

resprayed, why pray are you re-spraying the S?

Late March sounds good. I'll try and catch Tom and we'll have a look at routes and what-not. Have to go to Keilder I'm guessing, maybe into the castle car-park? I'll have a look for decent photo places as well.

Resprayed - as in new paint job because the current one is Cellulose and pants. I want shiney, bird poo resistant 2 pack. Ergo the only way to do it is a respray. It also gives me somthing to do for a few days and a chance to practice up my spraying skills.

Okay - sounds good, can I have four 8 x 5 glossies please? Sounds more interesting than people "piloting" cars.

I'm just looking at a map of Keilder roads, and to be honest there doesn't appear to be that much on offer. There are roads don't get me wrong, but there is only one listed that goes past the resevour. I happen to know it's not the greatest road in the world either.

Maybe Tom will mention some which are better, but I'm thinking a new option should me given... There aren't any pubs for lunches either...

Hows about the Moors around Alston over towards Lakes sound?

right, sorry chaps I've had a bit of work to do, and for those who know me, no I'm not lying! the roads to keilder are a blast, I know most of them very well, and the others I can remember pretty well. there is only one road going past the reservoir and although it gets busy this shouldn't be an issue with the time of day we're planning on visiting. the road however is fantastic (sorry stefan ) involving perfect tvr territory of sweeping bends and long visibility straights, although some of the connecting roads are....ahem, twisty

I think the best way to plan this is if I call you, bob and we plan a route with a map over the phone.

hmmm well for example....the hadrian at wall, the battlesteads at wark, the riverdale in bellingham, the black bull (IIRC) in a village not 3 miles from keilder water, not to mention leaplish center at the bottom end of keilder and keilder castle at the top end (very good backdrop for photos)

you try doing more than 60 on a wet moorland road with the constant risk of a sheep round the next bend!

the roads around keilder are a different kettle of fish (who keeps fish in a kettle?) and will be serious fun!

good to have you back Tom. I've lost my job as route planner then. Probably just as well - I'd take tight and twisties over long straights anyday.

don't get me wrong, most of the route is a delectable mixture of twisty and sweeping, but the particular road you referred to that drives past the water is long and sweeping with very good visibility
