I'm looking to get a lock up garage/small factory unit and install a 2 post ramp so I can work on my car, and let other people use too, for a small fee, to help cover my costs.

I've found a decent size unit but I'm not sure if there is sufficient height. The unit is approx 12ft high, so doing some basic maths of, I want the car 6ft high to get under it, an average car is between 4 or 5ft from the jacking points, then I should have enough room. Before I commit to the unit could somebody who has a garage maybe confirm what sort of height a car actually is when it's lifted.

Cheers,
Mike

The unit might be 12 feet high, but what about the lights?

If you use a 2-poster so the car starts off on the floor, and a typical car is 5 feet tall, then the roof of the car is going to be 10.5 feet off the deck by the time you have 6 feet of clearance under the floorpan (assuming the car has 6 inches of ground clearance).

I was thinking of putting a 2-poster in my new place but even if I only lift the TVR (about 4 feet tall) I'd still only get it 4 feet off the deck by the time the rafters are crushing the windscreen... eek

scratchchin Wonder if I can rework the roof frames to give me another couple of feet...
