Looks like they are cracking down on speeding along the 50mph stretch. Just after it starts (near the car garages and preston park) to Teesside park.

I have seen 5 people pulled over and 3 police cars parked with speed guns in various places (side roads and on slip roads)

Keep it to 50 everyone!

Funny you say that. I saw a few tonight too.

They like to pull up with the Gun at the Train Junction box on the East Bound section after the Yarm / Eaglescliffe / Visqueen slips, just before the new Ingleby Toytown junction.

Where else?

(and I confessed to a little but clenching Friday morning on the A66 - watching my mirrors etc, doing about 0.7 leptons, and looked back in my mirror.
yikes
cop

thank fk it wasn't for me as he sailed on by.....
I passed that one last night as he was pulling in at about 5.15. Gonna have to be careful along there now.

It's nothing new there; IME a regular spot over the years.

Yeah i've seen them there for a couple of weeks now. This is the spot here

Also seen one on the morning on the slip road going down to the A66 just after that spot i've marked on google maps. Very sneeky as you cant see him as you pass and doubt you'd see him in your mirrors too.

That area has always been a happy hunting ground for the unmarked fleet.

Simple answer just dont speed on it, its not that long a stretch if going from A19 to darlo direction, I have to do it everyday and its rare I dont see something pulled over or an unmarked/marked car.

I work just next to the A66 at that point and regularly see people pulled up out of the window.

There is also an auto electrics place on the road leading into my office where the Police vehicles seem to be serviced/kitted out. As I pulled out today there was a couple of PC's and a worker from the electrics place admiring what must be their new acquisition, which I 'think' was a black X5... I say think as I only spotted the front of it with blue strobes out of the corner of my eye as I drove past and then when I returned, there was no X5 in sight but there was a black X6 parked on the other side of the road, but again it was just a fleeting glance so couldn't tell for sure whether it had strobes etc.

I'll have to investigate further tomorrow - but you have been (kind of) warned!

IIRC, it was made into a 50 as the slip roads aren't long enough for a lot of cars to get up to 70mph, never mind the common 80-90mph seen in NSLs.

I think it's a 50-limit because of the density of sliproads, and the volume of traffic that uses it. You only have to look at the frequency of accidents around the A66/A19 junctions - i.e. the Tees flyover - to see that it's not the "safest" area in terms of risk.

This is the main reason, there is insufficient junction spacing and also insufficient weaving length between lain gains and drops for it to be NSL.

Just a little bump, passed 3 traffic cars, 2 eastbound and 1 westbound (all were parked up) between Preston Farm junction and Thonaby/Mandale junction just a couple of minutes ago - may find they are there for a while if anyone is passing through.

I have noticed a few more than usual, 'waiting' on the slip roads these last few days too !
All forces will be having a drink-drive initiative/crackdown in relation to the World Cup and associated behaviour.

Quick heads up - there's an unmarked silver S-Max on the plod fleet now. You can all guess what the number plate identifier is... wink
