Greetings fellow NEPHers...I have a wee spot of bother so I ask for some help:

I have a car on SORN awaiting an MOT (along with parts to be fitted to pass MOT) booked in for 09:30 Thurs 8th, but I have just discovered that the car park for my flat is not private ground and so plod are likely to sniff round, see that the car is insured, but not MOT or taxed and book me..not good.

so, I wonder....where do you think I could put my car where plod will not bother me? I was thinking metrocentre, but likely the security will rumble me after a day or two..I have a friend who will let me keep it on his drive but he's 40 miles away (and out of the reach of public transport) in northumberland and this presents problems getting up there and then back in time for my next week Thurs morning MOT app...plus the risk of driving it there.. frown

any suggestions are welcome smile

thanks!

Tom

Stick it in the sands car park opposite malmaison on the quayside and tell the security guys you are going away for a week. When you go back to get it go to Pitcher and Piano for a coffee first and ask them for a parking pass for the car park. Bingo, free parking!

tax is applicable on a "road or other place maintained at public expense".

so, if your flat is a council-owned one, then you need to move it. If the car park is privately-owned you do not.

I can arrange for it to be in the car park here at work for a while if you're stuck ( central-ish Newcastle )

2woody & zebs, you lovely people!

my t'internet connection from chatchat (mmm, superb service) has ensured no access to this thread for 24 hours but..so kind of you to offer!

I have begged a space on a neighbours drive for time being, and now need to get it in for an MOT sharpish, because i'm out of the loop in the NE would anyone care to throw in a suggestion of a reasonable garage? I used to use HWR motorsport near pont..

btw, the flat I live in is ex-council...see, I did not twig when I bought it 6 or 7 years ago that the council might still own the car park, and thus it would remain "public" property.. damn and blast it!

Tom, the house in the Tyne Valley and there is enough space on the drive for the car to be both safe and not in the way of mine and mrs Zebs cars. I'll email you my phone number if you want to give me a ring fella.

If you still need an MOT place, I usually use R&P Woods in Heaton for all of mine.
