why is it everything decent happens on a Sunday, the day I'm working , our last run out, the 4x4 jobie, HHC open day... everything happens on a Sunday. Humph!

I would investigate a shift change, but after just finding out I'm to lose my job come the Summer, I don't think there's much point I only asked for 6 weeks unpaid leave

No really, I mentioned it in the interview, and just asked about it now, I'm off to Cairo mid June for 2/3 weeks dependent then off to PF and tour the South Coast (maybe). Total of about 6 weeks. To do, Ikea have 2 choices, either drop me to a 0 hour contract and then re-instate me when I come back (unfeasible apparently) or allow me to resign.

I asked if there was anything to be done for coming back and it would be a case of "re-apply and hope, if nothing is avaiable ". Gutted to say the least!

Is your Job at Ikea really worth it?

Do you get paid phenominal amounts of money to work on a Sunday - my guess is no.

Resign and enjoy yourself, there's plenty of jobs out there for the determined when you return if you can't get back into Ikea. It might just be the making of you.

Jobs probably not worth it but when you are a student every penny counts.

Ask your boss if you get someone to cover you job when you are away for 6 weeks would you let me come back where i left off after the summer.

Speak to the saturday and weekday staff they could cover for you and you go back in september. Worked for me when i was a student a few years back

Steve

PS Sunday is really the only day people have free now Working days are Mon to Sat

oh, I'm not to worried, I have a feeling they will accomodate me in the matter (lets face it, I'm 20, reliable... the rest of the workforce is mainly made up of either 16year olds or late 20 year olds - make up your own deductions).

As pointed out as a student I need every penny (especially running a car now), and ikea is a great company to work for (as in company on the tills), but if they are prepared to let me go for the sake of 6 weeks holiday? Not that great a company then!

Onwards and upwards Summer holidays should be grand - ultimately it'll be my last Summer holidays ever so I plan to enjoy it. Enjoy it to the full!

I think the majortiy of things happen on Sundays, as it's the only time the majoirty are free. I remember the student days well. Saturday's were for recovery and Sundays for the partime job. Alas it all changes once you have finished.

I found out yesterday, I'm going to be allowed to resign nearer the time...

I then have to re-apply if I desire and they'll re-start my contract assuming there is a job available.

God I wish I was that young again...
Just go for it , and worry about the problems later. It'll probably enhace your future prospects, they'll probably re-hire you without thinking twice.

I am going for it, and if they re-hire me, well it's not exactly the worst thing to leave work for is it

I would worry about the problems later, but this year I'm surviving on the money I made in the Summer last year (how I bought the car) so I would want to do the same again (when I came back).

We'll see.

Once summer is here we will be able to do some evening events. Country pubs, cinema to watch Swordfish II, an evening picnic etc.
