I'm going up to near Alnwick end of Jan. Staying in Chathill for one night but wondered if anyone knows of a lovely, luxury hotel anywhere up the Northumberland coast for my other night - even Whitley Bay? Safe car parking a must.

Thanks!

Seaham Hall : http://www.seaham-hall.co.uk/

Excellent restaurant (Michelin star), nice spa, decent bar - lots of points with the OH!

True, Seaham Hall is lovely but nowhere near Alnwick as its south of the Wear nevermind the tyne. If you are just looking for an overnight stay the Malmaison in Newcastle is good and has parking.

I live a mile from Seaham Hall and its over an hour and 20mins from Alnwick on a good day, a bit further north near Morpeth you have Linden Hall, http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/lindenhall/

Played golf there a couple of times and have always been impressed

Jesmond Dene House is pretty good too. Again, not that close to Alnwick but a lot closer than Seaham.

Cheers Guys! I am going to Alnwick (well, Chathill to be exact) on the Friday so this is a Thursday stopover for some RnR. Anywhere within 2 hours will be fine as I do not need to be in Chathill itself until lunchtime/early afternoon.

All of the above would fit the bill so its now a case of deciding which best fits the bill!

Thanks again
Gary

Just to finish this off... stayed at Linden Hall and had a wonderful time. Even managed late night drunken snooker in the cave downstairs biggrin

And with Doxford being right beside Chathill, it would seem a good one.

I know its too late now but Doxford Hall is an excellent place to stay
5* luxury and a pool in the basement!
Our Jag club were invited while it was being converted to a hotel as the guy doing the intricate cornicing has a Jag.
We went back recently for Sunday lunch
Brian Bernie the owner was on the news last year as he was going to sell the hotel and give ALL profits to charity
Got some great pics but missed the one where some woman opened the curtains eek
