So it appears (dealer name removed) shafted me...no excuses for not checking but they managed to sell me a car with no life left in the front pads. I've put 2k on since I bought the car and although theyre not down to the wear indicators yet, the car tells me they only have 200 odd miles left in them and a quick look suggests they are pretty thin. Quick look on the net shows I can source some for around 50 quid but, being a lowly student I cant face the prospect of shelling out more dosh to have them fitted.

Any takers?

I would if I knew how to...

From what I know pads aren't too tricky to change are they? What type of pads are you looking at?

Assuming you bought the car under the mini approved scheme, from memory they are not allowed to sell a car that needs certain components within a specified mileage post purchase. ie if the car needs a service within 4000 miles they must service the car prior to sale. I would have a look at your approved scheme documentation and go back to the dealer. If they then refuse, ring up the approved scheme. Dealers get paid a fair amount for their customer service standards so they will not want a black mark against their history!

What he said. Pretty shoddy customer service to sell a car with that little life in the pads, through a main dealer.

They also often get paid a premium by the manufacturer for using the approved scheme to sell cars.

If you've been driving her hard, you can take quite alot out of a set of pads in 2000 miles

Agree but you should at least try the garage first. A mini is not too hard on pads. They may have not properly checked the car over so will have no response in the event that they have worn out within just over 2k post purchase.

Was it a (dealer name removed) used car site or an actual Mini garage? If the latter of the two take it back and dont leave till they agree to sort it, usual threats will write to the manufacturer etc etc and will get it sorted.

Thanks to all who offered - I may be coming back to you!

Been away for the past few days so I hadnt been able to sort this. Contacted SS today (yes, a MINI main dealer) and spoke to somebody in the service dept who assures me that the checks on the car when it came in revealed the pads were "satisfactory". He also mentioned that it may be the pads are fine and it could be that the computer is playing up, so its booked in next tues for them to look at. Either way, I'm fearful, they dont have the best reputation. If only I could take it elsewhere!

Will keep you updated

All free of charge I hope? SS are pretty good if you deal with the right guys there. They do most of the work on my cars and you can always negotiate a reasonable deal. Their labour rate may be high but they often get the job done much quicker so it balances out.
