I'm half contemplating getting some kind of ECU for my '5 but would need someone to fit and tune it and was wondering whether there was anyone in the north east that could perform such a service?

There's someone with a Tuscan who had a,I think, Link or something fitted and mapped at TurboPacs in Durham. He seemed happy with it.

Not too fussed as long as I can get it reasonably priced, Emanage Blue and Megasquirt PNP have been recommended to me.

Motorscope in Darlington are one of the best in the North East. Richard is very well respected.

Thanks for the replies. I'd happily go as far as Darlington (further even) if its worth doing - after all I took mine to Doncaster to have work done on it.

Mcdonald are just a rolling Road service, there tuning on Morgans has a good rep, any other car that requires computer assitance a would not recommend, ad suggest some one like e-maps coupled with mcdonalds dynonfor the day, charges about 60 an hour for the dyno,

Motorscope are the only decent one I've found in the north east but I generally prefer travelling a bit further afield depending on what car / ECU I'm using. Some places are great with some ECU's and not others, same goes for cars.

For the MX5 I'd suggest going on their owners club(s) and see where others a going, a good tuner will get people coming from all over the country.

Ive been to Mcdonalds, nice polite chaps but the setup is ancient and they sem to lack the knowledge when it comes to modern stuff, nothing against them they do what they know, and do it well.

Both mine and my sons cars were tuned at PDtuning on their dyno dynamics rolling road, very nice facilities and more knowledge with the more modern stuff that I could understand. Did a great job of mine and my sons cars as well as lots of friends and colegues cars, while I was there they had a few race cars as well as a porsche twin turbo 966 for work. Good prices and friendly staff. A bit more expensive than some others, but I put that down to the old 'you get what you pay for' scenario.

I am sure others have had good and bad experiences at these places, thats the way things go. I used to use Well Lane Turbocentre in leeds, they get lots of bad press on forums and get slated a lot, however I was always 100% happy with their service.

A colleague of mine had real problems with a TVR after it was mapped by them so wouldn't recommend them.

MacDonald Racing don't do "mapping". They only do carb setups.

I use their rolling road for all my mapping but obviously I do the mapping myself. Their rollers are rated to 350bhp and they have always been fine for everything I have done.

I have seen and heard of nightmares from all rolling road places and I wouldn't trust anyone in the North East to map a car for me.
