The Hyena Comedy Club, Newcastle. Anyone been?
Discussion
Been twice the first time was excellent but the last time only in June was not so good. Place was full of stag and hen parties and they were heckling so much they had to restart the show 3 times. Then one stag party got thrown out and the last act of the night walked off because the audience were talking, but his act was terrible so you cant blame them ha ha
Would suggest you pick a night when a well known act is on then you will have a good night.

Used to go all the time years ago when Peter Kay and the like were on the circuit. Was a great venue full of genuine comedy fans.
Has now turned into a bit of a joke as a comedy venue and I wouldn't go back. Stag and hen parties and general idiots are the problem.

I'd agree with the prior sentiments, they seem to cater for the stag/hen do crowd now.
The last couple of times we went, at least a year ago, we were warned by the bouncers that heckling (or talking amongst ourselves during the act) would not be tolerated. I understand that some drunken tt yelling obscenities is hardly fun for anyone, but I thought an intelligent/witty punter that could engage the comic was all part of the comedy club experience. I think the 'no talking' bit is because they really pack you in.
They also, or used to, inform you that you had to be in by a certain time (7 or 8) even though it would be well over an hour before the show actually started.
I'd avoid if I were you. I only went the last time because it was organised for a friends birthday - wouldn't bother again.

Yep same experience we had. In fact we left early as the quality of the acts was terrible too, and the fact you couldnt even talk to each other made for a pretty boring (and expensive) night. The last couple of times we went, at least a year ago, we were warned by the bouncers that heckling (or talking amongst ourselves during the act) would not be tolerated. Much preferred the comedy night at the Corner House pub in Heaton.
