Hi

I have to be in central Durham for 9am tomorrow. How bad is the congestion/parking? I was thinking that if I leave Harrogate around 7:15 that should be OK? Or not?

Next time I will not believe the OH when she says 'Yes, all the passports are fine.'

Thanks

The city gets busy (traffic wise) from 0730 until after 0900.

If you are heading up from Harrogate, come up the A-1 and follow the city centre signposts. Its so small you can hardly get lost.

Park in the Milburngate multi storey carpark and you are right on the doostep of the passport office.

Park in ANY of the car parks, and you are still only a few minutes walk away, so do not worry about where to park up.

Leaving at 0715 should be OK I would have thought.............Provided the A-1 is moving OK.

Good luck.

Great.

Thanks very much Bomb!

I'd better check the A1, they're rebuilding it north of the A19 exit. I may head up the A61and join higher up.

I did indeed - Now all set to flee the country tonight.

Most of the roadworks are on the southbound A1 so I got there with plenty of time.

As a bonus, had free parking because all the meters along the river outside the passport office were broken by the flood the other day. I've not seen the news for a couple of days so I didn't even know that there had been flooding in Durham, but they were pumping out the lower floors and there seemed to be lots of builders in the town.

It was a shame that it rained so much. I had a wander round the cathedral (pity that photography isn't allowed) then sat around in cafes and read the papers until my passport was ready.

Mrs Bomb works in that building next to the passport office.

It floods on a regular basis, but last week was extra ordinarily 'high tide' !!

The furniture in the basement is still floating.

Glad to hear you had a sucessful visit. Its a nice town for a few hours walkabout.

Enjoy your holiday.

I wouldnt say durham city is really busy! (well the way i come, Coxhoe>Bowburn>Durham) takes me all of 15-20 min to get from Sedgefield to County hall going straight throught the city center!

Its even quieter now that the uni has finished.

Here's the route:

And then at the end of the junction, turn left and the car park is right on your left

No probs - Its the thought that counts smile

I can exclusively reveal that I had a great time in France and really enjoyed the great weather. Now back in the UK and I've just made a start on the red.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Hmmm...my sister lives down next to the river...wondered why I hadn't heard from her. yikes

Doing the same passport run myself shortly. Easy to forget that kids' passports only last 5 years.

I always go up there, as don't trust the post. irked

can't you just lock them in the garage with a tin opener, and a few tins of food.

Simples.

Have a nice holiday.........
