Was mulling over on the way to work, how polite 'motoring enthusiasts' seem to be up here compared to elsewhere. (in my experience!!!)

Lets be honest - we all have a 'play' from time-to-time...someone lets you know that they are up for some fun...the roads allow...so we play 'keep up'.

I have noticed over the years, that the majority of folks round these parts acknowledge the other driver with a flash or a wave or a smile, once the fun is over. Not like in other places I have been, where it's best to not get involved as the other drivers seem intent on killing themselves and being rather aggressive about things.

Example 1 : A bit of a sleeper silver Corsa who was much faster than he had any right to be, kept me honest. Coming back into more populated areas, we backed right off and as I went one way and he went the other, he gave his hazards a little flash of acknowledgement. Obviously I flashed and held up my hand in return.

Example 2 : black modded Pug 106 trying it's best to keep up with me...who was trying his best to keep up with some serious bikers on the A69 a few weeks back. As it all slowed up, the driver gave a very nice smile and a laugh. Ok, in that instance, the driver was a rather good looking blonde girl, but the principle is still the same.

It seems common sense is more abundant here, too. Yes the foot gets put down, but in almost all instances, as soon as there is any hint of other traffic or built up areas, it all settles down. There are obvious exceptions, but I tend to just let them bugger off and do their own thing.

Anyway - this post was nothing other than a 'respect' to all those up here who think that speed is not a bad thing and that fun does not have to mean driving like it's some sort of competition.

The thing is mate - it's been mine all my life! biggrin I just have spent time all over the place over the years and every time I am away, I appreciate our region more and more.

Where else can you live 'in the country', but in 15 minutes be in one of the finest cities in the world? Or drive another 15 minutes and be at the beach?

HUGE retail. Great living opportunities. Your money goes further than in that dump called London...you can be paid half the salary and live twice the life, up here.

The only thing that surprises me, is the lack of higher-end car dealers. Yeah, we have a few - but in general the NE/Newcastle seems to be neglected by Fez/Lambo/etc. It's a shame, because there is a LOT of money round these parts.
