Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone on here was any good with car electrics, in particular, relating to car audio electronics, who could help me sort out my wiring into my headunit. I would of course, cross their palms with silver for their time.

Basically, what it is, I got a new headunit sometime back for my teg, its just a cheapo Sony jobbie, but when I tried to install it, I noticed that the wiring had been butchered. I got someone to fit it for me using a new wiring block, but the problem I now have is that the headunit, randomly, for no apparent reason, will power on and off rapidly. I'm guessing there must be something up with the wiring to cause this, but I aint got a clue where to start with it.

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me out smile

Chances are that they've spliced the new ISO connector into the old wiring, but haven't made a good earth or live contact.

You need to pull the head unit out and check each wire carefully at the point where it has been spliced in.

If they've used Scotchloks, rip it out and start again...

Whereabouts are you? May be worth sticking a mutlimeter on the power wires and giving them a wiggle and see if the voltage readout changes.

I fitted a new headunit last week chief, simple as.

It does sound like a dodgy earth. If you can remove your centre console stereo surround then i can have a look at it for you.

Will be down the garage 2moro fitting my refurbed wheels if you want to head over?

Sounds like a bad earth or bad power.. I used to fit stereos all the time a year back, but got a new job... If you need a hand, give me a shout!

Pop it out and have a look - a lot of units have a separate earth which is screwed onto the casing. If this is loose, it would produce the symptoms you describe.
