I am returning to my roots in the NE - after 10 yrs as an IT Manager in Edinburgh, and will be looking for work in early May.

Can anyone point me towards the main NE recruitment agencies - especially the ones focused on the IT market?

Any further advice appreciated !

I only have 1 developer position up for grabs at the moment - PM me if thats your thing.

Best IT agencies in the area are Solutions Recruitment and Nigel Wrights.

(In my opinion anyway, hope mods are okay with me mentioning them, if not delete, no offense intended)

Edited to say nice motor, get back in touch if and when you do get back in the NE for some motoring fun

Hi there.

You may have picked one of the worst times to return to the north east for work. A lot of the larger companies have recruitment freezes on at the moment, eg BT and EDS, and they are going through a phase of getting rid of contractors too.

BA may be expanding their workforce in the North East due to them moving some projects from Heathrow to the Newcastle offices. I have heard that would be around spring time. Newcastle Building Society are going through a major transformation and they may have roles soon too.

There are some smaller places always on the look out, and these are web based, media or game compaines. Keep an eye on CWjobs and get registered on there, might be best to state skills as IT Manager can mean anything. I would not rule out contracting, I recently got a call for a project manager role based in Newcastle, which was an initial contract for 6 months, then going full time. It was not senior enough for me (maybe it was not for you)as I presently work as a Programme Director for an investment bank responsible for EMEA based out of London 3-4 days per week and I'm also in the middle of changing jobs as I'm sick of working in London. I will be based in Newcastle from March but more travel to Europe which suits me.

Good luck with the search.

A chap named Peter at Reeds office in the Centre of Newcastle has previously been very good in finding me telecoms roles.

Could be worth giving them a call.

Thanks for the tips guys.

My IT Managment was in manufacturing - printing to be precise. I am hoping that the fact i am as used to re-soldering dry joints in legacy SFDC hardware, as i am am doing an Exchange re-build, will help me stand out from the masses !

I realise its not ideal recruiting time, but i am traveling to Asia for 3 months between leaving Edinburgh and arriving in the Toon. Hopefully, if we are not down to a 3 day week, the economy might have bottomed out and employers may be optomistic enough to start hiring again by May.
