Well, the run earlier this month may have been the first and last appearance of the "Police" BMW...

Dad was using it tonight and stopped behind a car waiting to turn right. A van then drove into the back of my car. It was on a 60 road but it's as straight as anything with good visibility.

The damage is dents and scrapes to the bumper, boot, rear 3/4 panel and the panel just above the bumper. A light unit was also broken. The bootlid has also moved slightly.

The car is still entirely driveable but will be more than likely written off given the value of it (£500) as each panel will need fully stripping back, body repairs and then spraying up again.

Fingers crossed but I'm doubtful.

Sorry mate. That was looking really smart as well. Keep us posted on how the insurance goes.

Just called my insurers this morning, they have said it was the other party's fault so I'm meant to be getting a hire car of a similar size...

"Do you have any preferences for equipment on this?"
"Yes I'd like SatNav please..." So hopefully I'll get something well specced!

So far that's the only progress that's been made, I'll keep the details flowing.

Got some pics last night of it but because it was dark they ain't brilliant so hopefully I may arrive home in light tonight.

Sorry to hear about that.

The good news is that BCA Newcastle run ex-police car auctions, so you can get yourself a new one there wink

What a shame. Guess you'll buy it back from the insurance to sell the parts + get the wheels off it etc? You could end up quids in. Bloody pain tho'! frown

The car is currently sat outside the house. I intend to whip the wheels off over the weekend and also get my head unit out before someone comes to inspect it/I have to take it somewhere...

Haven't done bad for a courtesy car, 24.5k of brand new Volvo estate! redface The car is entirely driveable though, I'm not driving it purely because of the broken rear light. Will hopefully have some pics of the not-so-extensive damage at the weekend.

Plans for another car are starting to form in my mind at the moment...

Pics to follow at weekend! tongue out

I describe the handling of the Volvo as "safe" lol. If someone manages to get into trouble with it they must be stupid!

Not sure on the 944 now, don't really fancy leaving it on the street in "tha 'hood" and the insurance could be a bit costly.

I do have plans for something a bit smaller and more chuckable than the 5 incase it get's written off...

And Pete, it's not buying the Labrador Lugger off the courtesy company!

However I did discover that it had a strut brace under the bonnet yikes I thought it was priddy cool!

Going to get the BMW booked in for inspection for sometime next week hopefully, fingers crossed...

Haha. What engine?

And are you considering buying it back if it gets written off?

It's the 1.9CDTI. In all fairness it's not a bad car, I've certainly driven worse.

If it is written off I think I'll let it go. By the time I've paid to buy it back and had it repaired etc I think I'm going to be better off biting the bullet and getting something newer...

I have my eye on something at the moment, however I'm waiting till I definately find out before I start hunting properly.
