ok the tamora is the greatest car iv ever owned , for me it ticks all the boxes , its gorgeous the roof comes off its a hand full on its limit and scares the pants off ya at the same time as been fun it loud yet people dont mind and traffic loves you all them middle lane hoggers move over even if your not in a rush. so all in all its been a dream, its even been reliable !!
but next year my maths dont add up when addeding in tvr insurance petrol and servicing, so im selling it, and for the best of my dreaming the year after i can only see me getting another tamora or t350.
but going through life for a whole year with just a ford ka frown aint going to be easy.

now heres the moment of maddness , a guys just offered me a part ex for a MK
now i dont know what a MK is ? but i like the look of it.

and the cheeper insurance and serviceing mite mean i still get something fun on the drive.

so pistonheads whats your thoughts and words of wisdom ?
will a caterhamsque mk with a gsx1000 engine fall apart blow up kill me or lose all its money in a day
or be something i can still on the drive and forget about untill summer and never look back ????

Can't really make out what you are saying. Are you saying you are going to sell the Tamora and then buy another one in a years time? If so, do everything you can to keep the one you have if it's a good one. You may not be so lucky with the next one and end up with large bills.
Don't think I've seen an MK but I can imagine it, keep the Tamora biggrin

The MK is pretty well regarded in kit car circles so I'd say if the price is right it could be a good move. You'll find plenty of info on Locostbuilders and I think there a couple of North East Pistonheaders with them too who might give you some pointers.

Hi Jim, I personally wouldn't make this exchange unless there was a significant cash adjustment in your favour. The Locost cars are always subject to build quality, I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there but you need to look closely. Locost is low cost because the kits are minimal leaving loads for the builder to add aftermarket. On the plus side they are usually built by people with good mechanical ability, these kits are not for the weekend kit car market, they are aimed at 'proper' old school engineers.

In defence of MK, they do go a fair bit beyond most Locost suppliers. They are more on a par with someone like Tiger or Dax.

Assuming it's paid for...lock it in the garage until you've more cash.

I've sold Lotuses and Tivs (3) more or less on a whim, and bitterly regretted it every time.

I bought this one back ! rolleyes

I am one of the North East PH'ers with an MK, and a Locostbuilder! I bought my MK kit just over four years ago, built it in about 12 months, and it's just passed its first MOT on its 3rd birthday.

I bought an MK because I wanted to go bike engined, and Caterham / Westfield only supported a limited range of engines. I'm pretty proud of the finished car, and it'll hold it's own against Caterham's and Westfields. Performance wise it'll do 0-60 in 4 ish and top out at 127. Acceleration through the gears is as you'd expect from a car that weighs less than 500 kg and puts out 160 horses.

However it is a weekend / track car. You couldn't use one everyday!

We (the NE7ER's) meet up on the last Wednesday of the month at the ChurchMouse in Chester-le-St. We tend to blat once a month, with longer trips away on tour and trackdays (where we hire the track to ourselves) about twice a year.

I'd say you'd be welcome to come along to the Mouse for a passenger ride, but not many 7's make it at this time of year (most of us opt of the tin top).

But as said, the potential resale value of an MK is very dependent on engine choice and build quality.

Cheers

Mike

its for sale here at pistonheads and looks real nice (white one) , warenty and factory built. would indeed be a strait swop so im really in to minds.
from what i can gather there pretty solid built.
cheep fuel, tax and maybe insurance.
so the big catch is what will a 08 MK indy be worth next year ? and how hard is it to sell on that type of car if the gf decides on something daft.... like a new house or baby ??? smile

The guys done the maths and tvr costs compared to the mk costs he's uesedput him off.
So new plan, sell tamora , its 02 , 31000miles for sale here on piston heads for 12k , a price that reflects what I owe and not the condtion of the car so viewing recomended. Just had tappets shimed and valves checked so clean bill of health.
Then get some savings behind me and with luck come summer seek out a gsxr engined mk indy to chase bobfarther through butter tubs pass in smile
