First brown pants moments
Discussion
Hi peeps
Had my first real brown pants time in the lotus this evening on the way home. Roads weren't wet, as I accellerated (quite hard as nothing around) and moved from second to third and threw the power down I lost the back end! It was fishtailing quite strong but I managed to keep it pointing straigh ahead but I almost shat myself. Went back along the road for futher inspection and there was a load of oil on the road...almost like a puddle...how unlucky to be changin gear just as I went over it!
Share your's as I'm sure there are quite a few close ones!

Iv had a 'moment' in my VXT. In the pissing wet exiting a roundabout, put the power down, back end steps out and what do I do? overcorrect in way The Hulk might.
Suffice to say I spun it. There was no oil on the road it was all my own fault and I was lucky the roads were clear.
I must have been doing only 30 at the time, only lightly hitting the gas.

I remember when I was out on a "mini-hoon" with a few PHers, and we were approaching Newcastle airport, when someone in a VXT hit some water (IIRC a burst water main) and he spun it and ended up in the ditch. Not sure what came of the car, but thankfully, the guy was alright, a testiment to how good the shells on those cars must be.
I dunno if he's still on here, but I'd be interested to know what became of his car.

That was me unfortunately. At the time when the car was pulled out of the hedge it didn't look too bad as the front intercooler had taken most of the hit so i felt it would be repairable. The insurance assessor decided otherwise and the car was written off. A few months later it appeared on Ebay with a few photos which included one showing damage to the suspension / chassis mounting. There was a lot of debate on the VX forum about whether this was repairable or not but eventually it sold for £4.5k. Never heard anything about the car since and the insurance database has it down as having no registered insurance so I guess it was stripped for parts.I dunno if he's still on here, but I'd be interested to know what became of his car.
I did buy a replacement VXT a month later and touch wood haven't had any similar moments since.

I had a few moments this morning but nothing really severe, i think if you drive slow enough the Exige is ok, no accelerating with the wheels turned!!

I was going past the Jet garage in Blaydon/Swalwell and heading to turn onto the A1 Northbound. A couple of granny chariots were perched at the crossing about to join the A1 also. Not wanting to be stuck behing said chariots, I put my foot down and probably carried a little bit too much speed into the corner.
On straightening up, I put my foot down a little... the back end tried to overtake the front and I ended up fishtailing my way up the sliproad for what seemed like an eternity. Oh how the grannies must have chortled.
I'm now a lot more careful putting the power down in the wet. Especially with an audience.

Sean, if I remember I came 7th that time. Since then I have developed bit of a 'thing' for the go karts... any time you want to go back let me know ; ) Im always up for a race : )
Think you're in the wrong thread here fella, but yes I got peed on, dispite me driving like a nakka Speeking of Brown Pants Moments I remember the f1 open day we were meeting at Northbound Washington services, so we all head down that way, up the sliproad next to Makro to double back Northbound, everyone of us hit a patch of oil, hence a queue of us all fishtailing in succession. Quite a sight I'm sure.

Talking of brown pants moment i had some new R888's fitted on saturday drove straight to the garage to put some petrol in, could smell diesel quite strongly ..anyway left the garage and approached the roundabout in 2nd gear hardly touched the throttle and the whole back swung violently round to the right almost 90 degrees, loads of opposite lock and power on and it pulled it back but bloody hell quite a suprise for me and the old man walking his dog on the path!
Last year, in my Cobra kit car - came off a roundabout and nailed it. Unfortunately there must have been some diesel on the roundabout cos it just snapped sideways. The pair of us slid down the road together sideways for a while - man and machine in perfect harmony, you know how it is when you think you've got the hang of it - until I took my foot off the juice to try to straighten it up, at which point the 'kin auto box decided to change up a gear, increasing the angle of attack, toward some very nasty looking safety barrier protecting an overbridge.
Anyway after some microsurgery on the old underpants nothing was worse for wear. Strangely enough, the auto box didnt stay in the car much longer after that. There is now an extra pedal and a proper gearlever in place of the T bar shifter handle.
Cheers

can remember most of my "brown trouser" moments, but as the thread is for the first....
many years ago, when I'd not long learned to drive I had an Austin Healey Sprite ( and no, I'm not THAT old ), was approaching the roundabout outside the Belfrey in the midlands, having just passed a Ford Escort delivery van. Carried too much speed into the roundabout and spun it right in front of the van. To my surprise, I got right round and was able to boot it just in time for the exit that I wanted. EXCEPT that I was still in top gear and stalled it.
oh well, close, but definitely no cigar.
who remembers 145-profile tyres, then ?
