Just been to 'Uno Trattoria' and had a great meal.

£30 for a good starter, two mains and a couple of drinks.

Good size portions, excellent service.

Gusto which replaced est est est has some amazing pasta chefs.....although its chain its very authentic and wait'd by loverly polish gals

You can't beat Francesca's in Jesmond for tasty, cheap food, and good atmosphere. It is the only place I will queue 1hr+ to get a table .

I'm a northern girl really, from N Yorks, but I spent 8 years up in Newcastle/Northumberland at uni and then work.

Another thumbs up for Gusto! I have been 4 times in the last 2 months and each time both service and food have been great.

You will probably have to book in advance. It has been full every time I have been.

I went a little bit further along and tried the new hotel du vin bistro, food was excellent as anticipated as I've been to a few of the others. Service was terrible but I will give them the benefit of the doubt as it has just opened and it had a huge Christmas party in plus we got free desserts and drinks!

Maybe worth a try
