Was interesting to see how the local derby compared to the old firm i'm used to.

You lot can say/sing whatever the hell you want, some right direct anti-opposition chants going on, even radio presenters and the likes showing their colours without fear of reprobation.

Struck home how nuetered (sp?) we are back home, wish we could have those old days back.

It is always surprising how these fierce Wear-Tyne / Tyne-Wear derbies are played down by the media in general. They always seem to think that Merseyside, Manchester or North London derbies are the real deal but in my experience very little compares to the intensity of these North East occasions. I am surprised by your statement however as I thought the Glasgow clashes would be the nearest thing but it even sounds like these have been numbed down some how - most strange!!

That's the thing, because it's been in the limelight so much, it's changed things. On the face at least.

It's still as mental as ever, the way it should be, away from the game, in pubs and homes all over Glasgow but at the game, on the television and radio, commentators and supporters, we all have to watch what we are saying/singing or you will get arrested/banned from the club for life.

It's the main reason i've not been to an old firm game in years, it has changed and it's almost better to watch it in the house or at the pub with mates than it is going to the game.

Reality is, there is NOTHING like an old firm game, the atmosphere is electric and it is something to experience before you die. That will never change, it's just a shame it's now so PC actually at the games, it's lost that feeling of hunger. Maybe that's just the bigot in me speaking but i miss it.

Definitely going to go to the next tyne-wear derby and see how it compares inside the stadium. From what i saw, it should be rather intriguing.
