Can anyone recommend a good beach within about 3/4hour drive from Newcastle, somewhere that's good for a 4-year old to make sandcastles and go paddling etc... (preferable with a good fish & chip shop nearby for my lunch!)

thanks
James

Thanks, Bamburgh and Holy Island would be ideal but a bit too far, we'll give Cullercoats a try.

Thanks very much !

Druridge? Bay. Cant recall if the cafe at the visitor centre does hot meals though.

+1 for Druridge Bay, just out of the way enough for it to be quiet during the week, Its just up the A19, into Widdrington and hang a right.

Blyth beach is nice too, quiet compared with Tynemouth etc... just off there now as it happens.

Would agree with Druridge bay or Seaton Sluice or cullercoats in that order.....though SS is deffo the best for the fish and chip restaurants!
