ETA: As long as you can get one somewhere in the city centre it wont matter too much, you can walk from one end of it to the other in about 20 minutes.

I'd look into these self catered apartments, then just pile in http://www.citybaseapartments.com/uk/newcastle-apa...

I prefer the Malmaison if you are spending the sort of money that the Copthorne costs, but if you want a cheapy, then either the Travel lodge, or the Holiday Inn express, which is a bit further from the quayside, but is a lot closer to the train station area, which is where most of the good bars are these days (the quayside has gone downhill quite a bit).

The Grey Street hotel is in a good location. You can walk to the quayside if you must. But like someone has already said it is the complete pits with better places to go then there.
Only 3 places I would go to down on the quayside, the bar at Mal, café 21 and the live theatre. The rest of it is a f
king hovel, full of stag and hen do's f
king the place up for everyone else. Oh and the gate is worse.

Whats so bad about the Quayside? All depends what you want really, but its lively enough. If you dont like lively nightspots then you probably dont like anywhere in Newcastle?
If that is directed at me, it's a very odd comment about not liking anywhere in Newcastle as you don’t know me and have made that opinion on the fact I think the Quayside is sh*t. The quayside has progressively gone down hill over the last few years.
It attracts the same clientele that the Bigg Market attracts and I have not drank there in a good 10 years, and it is also over run with sh*ty Hen and Stag do’s who wear sh*t outfits thinking it’s the first time people have seen anything like it. f

Yeah maybe I’m, getting old (34) and have a jaded view, however a couple of months ago, I was walking down towards Mal at about 3pm on a Saturday afternoon with Mrs GMan to meet some friends before we went to Jesmond on the drink. I had the misfortune of having to see about 40 odd of these said

A few years ago it was one of the best places to drink in Newcastle with none of this b

PS I do drink in some sh*t holes in Newcastle too, but my excuse is it’s usually on a match day.
PPS, I have not mentioned The Pitcher here, I think it's sh*t on the weekend, but during the week or on a Friday afternoon while playing the wag from work I like to get drunk in there.

It's a great website with some really funny stuff on there. I don't think the Newcastle Arms should be pub of the month all the time though, and the smell at the Trent needs to be described, great pre match bar but it f

k me if I had a quid for every time I’ve seen some lasses on hen do’s wearing t-shirts with some stupid saying like Cum on my flaps Claire or Brenda blowjob or Stag do’s with lads in dresses or dressed as Borat, I would never have to work again.

s mentioned above drinking outside Chase and the Slug shouting at anyone that went past, we just both thought what a shame that the Quayside has come to this.

ks. In my opinion there are only a few places down there I would even bother with now. I’d rather be pi55sed up in Popolos, Secco, Living Room, Barluga, Tup Tup and World Headquarters then most places down there. Saying that though these bars get there fair share of to55ers too, but not as many as down there.

Sorry I wasnt having a go. I just dont think its that bad. Some of the stag / hen parties are full of

All depends what you want from a night out. Where I go depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes I'm in the mood for somewhere a bit lively, so will go to the Gate, Quayside, Bigg Market. Not sure the Quayside'ss much like the Bigg Market really, Bigg Market seems a bit more rough and ready to me.
Sometimes I'm more in the mood to chill out so would go to the diamond strip (central stn area), or maybe the Haymarket or Ouseburn.
If I was a young lad / lass coming to Newcastle though, I'd be inclined more to go to somewhere like the Quay where it was lively and a lot going on rather than the more chilled bars though, and I think for that sort of thing its not that bad, thats all I'm saying. You dont like it, fair enough, that doesnt mean everyone thinks its crap though. I happen to think all areas of Newcastle have their own unique characters. It'd be pretty boring if it were all the same.
