I'm interested to know where this is... Have search on Google Earth but can't seem to see anything obvious.I know the area quite well so any clues as to where to look? (Understand it might not be the best thing to do to give out exact location on here)
cheers

Well bloody hell, I live near Helmsley and I never knew that was there. Anyone know what it was used for? Bombers, Fighters, etc.
Looks like it was a bomber station and then used for training. If you look on Google Earth there is a light aircraft in the middle near the old control tower - wonder if the farmer (I presume) who owns it uses it for take off and landing?
RAF Wombleton

I only live 10 mins a way so may have to go and investigate.

Keep us posted on this, as I'd love to blast around an abandoned airfield.
Would like to think any friendly farmer would be subject to a few quid bribe even if it is private unused land.
Do a search on google map for Brunton, Alnwick. Up until a couple of years ago it was open to the public. Last time I checked the gate was padlocked but it could well have reopened. Has a nice little kart track marked out at the end of the main runway.Would like to think any friendly farmer would be subject to a few quid bribe even if it is private unused land.

Same for me... I'm away this weekend but if the weather is OK week after next I'll have a run down and see what I can find out. I think you might be right, if we can find the farmer / owner and keep things civilized we might be on for a treat!Would like to think any friendly farmer would be subject to a few quid bribe even if it is private unused land.
I hope this works but I do have significant doubts. If the owner has an ounce of knowledge regarding public liability he will have to refuse permission. Once permission is given, even verbally, the owner becomes liable; he becomes the operating business in the eyes of the law and is therefore accountable to the HSE. The only way he can get away with it is if he can prove he didn't give permission.
BTW Turning a blind eye is classed as giving permission in Civil law.
As far as I know the Scooby boys just turn up and play. There are no reports of people being thrown off the property.
