We've used the Mason Arms in Rennington a few times.
Including last weekend.....

We always go for rooms in the outer buildings.
Some in the main building are over the bar.
There again not so far to go after a few.....

You must try Holy Island but be aware of the tides! It's on the coast and it's handy for other attractions in the area. It is a fabulous area to visit. Try the Ship Inn on the island - comfortable and reasonable rates (www.theshipinn-holyisland.co.uk) I assume you will be coming up from W Yorks and you might want the scenic route. That will be up the A1 then to the Washington services (not scenic), fork right for the A194 signed Tyne Tunnel (just for the noise!), head North on A19 and A1 for Morpeth, off at the exit with the A697 to Longhorsley, Longframlington, Thrunton and Powburn. Watch for speed cameras in these towns. On to Wooler, turn right onto B6525 sign posted Berwick, through Doddington and Ancroft. At the end of the road turn right onto the A1 signed Alnwick and, after 4 miles turn left to Holy Island. This was the route that TVRBob gave us last year for the Holy Island Hoon and gave some excellent driving. The other route is from the tyne tunnel head north and just follow the Coastal Route signs. As it says on the tin, this route takes you along the coast and takes in some interesting towns, lovely scenary, a number of castles and beaches. Have a good time.
